Summer blog a bit late...

Ahh the lazy hazy days of summer are upon us here in west Quebec. We have had some time to unwind after the flurry of fun that was June & July, what with the smashing success of the Wolfe Island Garden Party followed by another banner Skeleton Park Arts Festival. I barely had time to catch my breath before my old buddy Jack Grace sauntered into town for a batch of fine Honkytonk shows in Wakefield, Kingston and W.I. of course. We ended the weekend at the Wolfe Island Grill patio where the sunset, picturesque evening sparkled on & on. Played so many great songs and were joined by Jason Mercer & Casey Fisher. Clem Chesterfield and Rusty Ford both were featured as well. A lot of dudes in fine shirts. I am off to join Tom Savage, Brock Zeman, and Seamus Cowan at the Cove Inn over in Westport for a night of backslapping fun this Sunday August 4th. Brock and Tom and true workhorse troubadours whos songwriting prowess seems to know no boundaries when it comes to quality and sheer output. I feel like I’m doing more of a revue of my songs as I do not write that much anymore but luckily have enough material compiled over the years that it is fun to revisit songs and bend them to my current needs. Also in August I will be playing the Fairbairn House stage here in Wakefield on Monday the 12th. It is a natural amphitheater by the famous covered bridge and locals and such come out with picnics and drinks to enjoy the show. The series was started by Paul Hampsey, a good friend and talented musician in his own right who saw the potential and pitched it to the proper people. Boom! A new live music scene arises. It is a tough row to hoe these days with live music venues & bands struggling to make ends meet. House concerts and the like are more and more common. I did one recently up this way with Jack Grace and it was a jam packed success. Later in the month I will be putting on a super show for a long time music supporter and her friends & family down Kingston way. It will feature Juno Jenny Whiteley and her partner Joey Wright (my half brother cousin), as well as Tara Dunphy, Kelsey McNulty & Jt Taylor from the Wrongs. That is too good to be true, but it is. Autumn holds plenty of potential for creativity as I am determined to ramp up this new noise band I have got going with some pals here. So far we have worked up a sound and the beginning of some hits. Who knows if it will ever see the light of the stage, I am just happy how the rage makes me feel when we play....Mid July Report

Hello pilgrims! Well what a fun-tastic summer it has been so far for us and hope you too. I have been swimming everyday and walking our super energetic dog all around hells half acre. For us here in Wrongsland the few full band gigs that we play a year as of late have been condensed into a weekend at the Opinicon Lodge at Chaffeys Locks. Between the tight knit group of friends that number a dozen of us, along with a bit of cross pollination/playing with business going on, we make up The Rizdales, Oh Susanna, Carlo, H Chris Brown, Butterfingers! and Lw & the Wrongs. It was our 2nd annual Opinifest at the wonderful lodge and we had perfect weather and a great turnout. The next event up is a show with handsome and talented Tom Savage and pretty (talented) Ms Jenny Whiteley at the legendary Blacksheep Inn in Wakefield, Qc. It is a fine room for songs to shine and between the 3 of us we will have plenty of shiny songs for you. Saturday, August 11th at 8:30 or so. Hello there, I am not going to lie to you but I have been saying NO to opportunities to play, but I said YES to playing a benefit for the sea turtle sanctuary down Mexico way last month. It coincided with my pal Jack Graces birthday and we played all the hits. Our kind and generous hosts Odette and Eric made it even easier what with their fantastic casa and beachside, sunset, fresh fruit margarita bar where Jackie boy and I dug up all the good songs and more with our new pal Spencer from Cali who sang Español muy bueno. Yep, that was great. Now summer is emerging and we have some rare, excellent shows coming down the pipe. Stay tuned!Wolfe Island Records news

Hola amigos! I am excited to be part of the Wolfe Island Records collective. Hugh Chris Brown has built up a great group of musicians and bands through his recording and production skills and as he produced our last album and has appeared on Rebuild the Wall, Guitar Pickin Martyrs and Man of Your Dreams it is a perfect fit.  My first mission is to head to Sayulita Mexico to perform at the Amino Benefit for Campamento Tortuguero with my pal Jack Grace and friends. Then we are working on another Wolfe Island Garden Party event June 15 followed by the Skeleton Park Arts Festival which has me returning as MC. Also in the works in the 2nd annual Opinicon Lodge fest July 7th. Whew, that is all for now.Hello!

Well, autumn is here in the hills after a super fun summer. Â We have slowed down the performing as the empty tour dates section shows, but that is all good in the grand scheme of things. Â I have really never taken any time off of playing live since the pre Internet days so the strange sensation is oddly pleasing, yet bizarre. Â I recently came into possession of a fine new Martin acoustic guitar though and could not be happier about the current line up of the band with Tara Dunphy and Kelsey McNulty in the ranks. So it is a stable foundation to leave fallow while I see if I can come up with something worthy of your attention. Hugh Christopher Brown has got Wolfe Island Records chugging along and I am going to continue my collaboration with him and many of the other musicos I call family. May first has arrived and the list of fun things to do is growing! In some sort of order here is what is on deck. Right some soon is the first festival of the season, County Pop Festival at the wonderful Crystal Palace in Picton on Prince Edward County. Hello good times! The fest features a slew of fine talent including bill & Joel Plaskett and Terra Lightfoot. I am part of a fantastic Leonard Cohen Tribute up in Chelsea/Wakefield, Quebec. We held one spectacular, sold out event already and are set to do another night in Chelsea on June 9th. I will be ranting out a version of The Future as well as countryfying The Chelsea Hotel. Fun! Hugh Christopher Brown is kicking off Wolfe Island Records to unite all of the great albums he has been recording and producing on the island including our Hearts and Lonely Hunters album. Other artists on the label and appearing at the two day event are David Corley, Suzanne Jarvie, The Openhearts Society and more. We may even do a Butterfingers show for the junior chipmunks. And our drummer Wrong Casey Fisher is launching his brewery the same weekend, hic... The Skeleton Park Arts and Music Festival is back for its 11thyear and I will be hosting the days in the Park with Fred Penner as well as appearing in the Hootenanny Revue. The line up is just our now and features our girl Sarah Harmer as headliner on the Saturday night as well as Yuka, Old Man Luedecke, Justin Rutledge and more. What a spectacular event to be involved in yet again. And the wheels are in motion for a very special weekend event I will be curating at the fabulous Opinicon Lodge in Chaffeys Locks in the heart of the Rideau system. Winter, oh winter. Let us breakup okay? At least for a solid 6 months or so for sure. I am excitement prone about upcoming shows with the Wrongs. I will be letting it rip with the likes of Tara Dunphy, Cam Giroux, Kelsey McNulty and James Taylor starting with a few Kingston area shows. We played together as this line up in December and it really turned mine and Cams heads around after all these years. We played our first of a series of shows together at the Muziikki Cafe in Kingston. It is a funky Toronto style, long, narrow whisky bar with 2 floors and a back patio. Back in the eighties it was The Brock Street Gallery and was owned by my mom and her friend so the show held a special significance for me. Many fine memories of ma and her local artist cabal. Needless to say it was magic evening and by the time we hit the Blacksheep in Wakefield a few days later the desire to play as this line up for a whole was a done deal. I am not gonna lie you, it is a bit logistically tricky for booking shows as Tara lives in London Ontario and the others in Toronto. Me being in Wakefield leaves a 7 hour gap to bring us together but we have a plan, sure we do.Holy smokes that was fun!

Well it was an eventful autumn between touring in the UK with Miss Emily and crossing Canada with the Wrongs, Rueben deGroot and Colleen Brown. So many great shows and wonderful people, my head is spinning still and I am waiting for my soul to catch up. The Uk and especially Scotland was a great experience. Our handler Gord Hunter pulled out all the stops in getting us support from his many great contacts over there. It would be impossible to tour like we do without the good will of music lovers. The same goes for our Canadian tour. Rueben and Colleen know many fantastic and generous people who provided venues, meals and places to stay as well as filled the shows with keen music fans. We posted lots of pics on facebook but I will endeavour to put some in our gallery here. Next up is our annual holiday rock show for charity on December 22nd at the Ale House in Kingston.The Old Country

My dear old pops talked with a thick brogue having come to Canada from south of Glasgow as a young man. It is with great joy that I return to my people there to play music with my friend Miss Emily. Many thanks to Gord Hunter for organizing the tour. I will post updates and pics as the tour unfolds. It is a busy autumn for us as we head west with Rueben deGroot and Colleen Brown on November first for 3 weeks of shows which beginning Thunder Bay and take us to the coast and back to Alberta in support of Hearts and Lonely Hunters. And not to stop there with news, Sean Kelly, Sarah Harmer and I meet this week to plan our 20th something annual holiday charity rock show. Details to follow. Wowzers it is September and summer is winding down as we wind up for some touring. Â First up is a UK tour with my bandmate and solo force of nature Miss Emily. We head to Scotland on September 29 and play our way down to London. The dates will be up in detail soon. Then Rueben deGroot and I team up with a shared band of wrongs and rocket surgeons to head west in support of Hearts and Lonely Hunters and Ruebens soon to be released album. Dates will be listed for that soon as we dial in the last bits. The vinyl of Hearts and Lonely Hunters arrived last week and it looks and sounds fantastic if I do say so myself. Yessiree it sure is nice, sunny and hot finally. We have been enjoying weekend wonders in friendly places the last while including a great island party and just recently the Skeleton Park Arts Festival in Kingston. It is the 11th year of this community arts fest and we had perfect weather, lots of art, music, food, and smiles to go around for the whole weekend. Washboard Hank and I MCd the fest on Saturday and Sunday and also rocked in the Hootenanny with all of our friends.Turn it Up!

It will be a go-er this week with four fun shows in the area and this steamy, full on July weather that is rocking us with the heat. I am starting the music fun by playing a solo gig this Thursday down the road on the patio of Le Hibou in scenic Wakefield, from 6:30 until 8-30. Then Dan guitar Curtis is meeting me at the Stonewater pub in Gananoque, the heart of the Thousand Islands on Friday to step it up as a duo (8-11). Saturday it is all in, full 6 piece band at the Toucan in Kingston with our buds Rocket Surgery. We will play first and then watch them wow the crowd. And that should get us ready for Sundays blaster as we are closing off Westfest at Laroche Park in Ottawa. It is on! June 24 25 weekend sees me teaming up with Washboard Hank as MC of the Skeleton Park Music festival in Kingston. We will also be performing in the Hootenanny on the 25th afternoon with Jenny Whiteley, Rueben De Groot, Miss Emily, H Chris Brown, Lotus Wight and more. What a blast it will be. Â Bruce from that band is from Godspeed You Black Emperor, possibly the greatest band ever. As the festivals announce their line ups I will post the news. Howdy pilgrims! We have been grooving and grooving through the winter here in west Quebec and Kingston town but the summer is coming into focus with some great festivals which we will list once they all announce their line ups. Kingstons wonderful Skeleton Park festival is back on target after some changes to the organization, as these things are wont to do when they grow and grow like that festival has been doing for 10 spectacular years. I hope to be part of it in some production capacity (I MCd and stage managed last years day in the park) and potentially as part of a Hootenanny Revue that is proposed and would feature some astounding talent, as per usual. Well the test pressing of our vinyl for Hearts and Lonely Hunters has arrived and sounds great. Now it goes to the plant for printing which will take another 8-12 weeks. I hope to be playing music still... My apolojesus to everyone who pre ordered the vinyl but whatyagonnado? Happy new years everyone!  It sure was nice to have new years eve on a Thursday and then a whole weekend to ease into 2016.  As of late we have been applying for summer festivals and getting the new album out to college and community radio and the the CBC of course.  This weekend I am throwing myself another birthday party. Hey, why not? This year it is at the Cove Inn in beautiful Westport, Ontario  where our buddy Seamus and his family run a wonderful place.  It will be a Hootenanny with my copilot Oh Susanna and a bunch of other talented friends as well.  As the news of David Bowie passing is just in we will be sure to pay tribute to the man with a few hits.  Our annual Holiday Rock Show for charity in Kingston right before Christmas was another great success.  We raised $8,000 for 3 local charities and the room was filled with friends old and new.  Deck the Halls with Balls & Kelly brought the house down with their closing set of killer tunes.  And speaking of Bowie, I joined the fellas for a smashing rendition of All the Young Dudes which I have been waiting to play my whole life. We are still waiting for the vinyl copies of Hearts and Lonely Hunters to arrive and our next full Wrongs show is at the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield on February 12th.  Miss Emily Fennell will be open in as well as playing guitar and singing with us as she is in the band, yo. We are settling in for the holidays here in Wakefield and Kingston albeit without our treasured snow. At least the driving will be safe. Thank you for supporting music and our band for all this time. We are keen to play in the new year and hopefully we will see many of you out there. My lovely suitmaker Wendy wrote a nice piece about her suit making that started with my fine Octopus themed suit that has turned many heads these last years. Our show at the Cameron House in Toronto last week was a great success with a super crowd of folks out to hear us play the songs from the album as well as a bunch of the hits from our past albums.  That was our last show of the year and we are now looking forward to our vinyl release show at the legendary Black Sheep in Wakefield on February 12th.  The next event on the books is our umpteenth annual rock show for charity in Kingston on December 22nd. here is a link to buy tickets online for the benefit     It will be great!ÂWebsite renewed!

After many years of scheming and dreaming and writing and recording it is finally done and in my hands. Yes our new album Hearts and Lonely Hunters was produced by Hugh Christopher Brown and features all of the Wrongs with some very special guests including The Holmes Brothers. Everyone who contributed to the crowd sourcing campaign will be receiving there orders in the next few weeks and our official Toronto release show is set for November 25th at the fabulous Cameron House. Kingston show to be figured out soon too. Wakefield get the first look at it live with our show at the Blacksheep inn on Oct 9th. More news to follow!August and beyond

Hi there, I trust everyone had a fun summer. I have been working away with H Chris Brown, Marty Kinack and David Irvine to finish up Hearts and Lonely Hunter for release into the world. Everyone who contributed to the indiegogo campaign can expect a digital copy within a few weeks if all goes according to plan. The cds will be about 3 weeks and the vinyl will take months as it is the fastest growing medium in music, who woulda thunk... Cathy Cleghorn has got the tshirts, stickers and buttons almost ready too. Very exciting. I am not positive when the official release will be but our pre release show at the Blacksheep Inn in Wakefield is set for Oct 9th. Wahoo! LwJune Bug!

Well well well it is June already and time for an update. In a few weeks I will be join Carolyn Mark and band for a few shows including the Legendary Black Sheep Inn here in Wakefield and the wonderful Island Grill where Sean Kelly will join us on bass. Mr Rusty Ford is playing the tour with Carolyn as well and we wind up at Franc and Sylvias barn for a ripper of a show on June 28th. My next big thing that is coming up is as MC of the Saturday portion of the Skeleton Park Festival and it is the 10th anniversary of this amazing, homegrown event which we have played many times over the years. It has already started and runs to the 21st with the park concert on Saturday June 20th from 10-9.Muchas Gracias!

Well our indiegogo campaign worked out great and we raised a pile of money to help pay for the making of and reproduction of my new album. Thanks to all who contributed and helped spread the word. We are closing in on finishing all the recording and mixing. The summer is closing in and we have already had some pretty nice days here in west Quebec/Kingston area. I am playing the first of a few patio shows coming up at the Wolfe Island Grill where our drummer bandmate Casey Fisher has done a wonderful job renovating the restaurant and modifying the beautiful patio. I am really looking forward to hosting the Skeleton Park Music festival in the park in Kingston on June 20th. It is an all day thing that is part of a larger all week event. Happy Easter! We are off to an excellent start with My Indiegogo Campaign to raise funds for ye new album. I want to thank all of you that have contributed and those of you that are going to, (right?). It is shaping up to be a great listen that is about one half rockers and one half roots. The rock part is so fun to work on in the studio as mucho guitars are used plus plenty of keyboards and stringy synthy bits. And of course pounding drums courtesy of the magnificent Cam Giroux. H. Chris Brown has done such a solid job wearing the producer hat during this ride. We have been teaming up and scheming on musical events for 20 good years with great results. It all started when the uber group he was in, The Bourbon Tabernacle Choir, took Weeping Tile on what was to be there last national tour and what was then our first. Our gang in total numbered fourteen, and took 2 vans and a car to move around the 2nd largest country in the world. Shortly after that epic adventure they all moved to Nyc and set up shop in Jersey where they worked the New York city music scene for a bit before eventually disbanding. Brown and Kate Fenner had no intention of leaving the city though and they soon established themselves as an act to attract both audiences and stellar musicians who wanted to play with them. They moved over to Brooklyn and set up shop on President street in a bohemian groove palace that many Canadian bands booked in to stay at over the years. The jams in the kitchen and especially the back yard groovy grotto are legendary. That is where me the Wrongs were the night of the great blackout of 2003. Here is a story many musicians can tell versions of. I recall there being 3 stand up basses at one point during the jam. It was like every musician in Brooklyn new where to gravitate to when the power failed. It was the same place in 2005 Brown was asked by the Goodman family to produce a tribute album to the late, great Steve Goodman which included me and the Wrongs doing his most famous song, City of New Orleans. Now 10 happy years later we are mining the music gold at his rustic studio on Wolfe Island off the shores of Kingston and hello! This winter has been right out of a Jack London story. My my it has been a while. Things are actually moving along quite well with my long anticipated album. H Chris Brown and I have sequestered ourselves over on Wolfe Island for many weekends over the winter in his rustic studio, beavering away on the finer points. Sheeham Crowe of Sheeham and Lotus lives over there as well so I press-ganged him into helping me with The Parking Lot Song. It is one of the oldest of the batch and we demoed it once upon a time in Winnipeg whilst on tour but I have probably played it at almost every gig and hootenanny since so it seems like a defining version is in order. Sister Sarah Hamer came over for a big day of vocalizing and juiced up the project with her fabulous pipes. Wrongs guitarist Dan Curtis has also stirred the pudding and wham bam Cam Giroux made another visit a few weeks ago to round out the last few tunes with his solid drumming and amicable vibe. Spring is slow in coming but we are hopeful. Carolyn Mark and the Hootenanny Revue rides again this June with shows in Ontario and Quebec. Happy new year to all! We had a wonderful and successful event on December 21 in Kingston that raised almost $8,000 for local charities. The music was most excellent and everyone attending was smiling throughout. Lederhosen Lucil wowed the crowd with her quirky, poppy beats and fun songs, not to mention her whacky outfit. Our Weeping Tile set went smooth and was super bon fun to play. Deck the Halls with B&K played mucho hits and we had a special appearance by B-out for a rip - Rich. Captain Footbags started it out with a funk party then the Diaries wowed everyone with their stunningly beautiful set. Ole Jay Harris and his band rocked it up a notch to accent twenty years of holiday rock in the hometown and Paul Langlois from the Tragically Hip joined B&K to belt a couple of classic crooner numbers including some Neal Diamond. Really, what a show! So winter has now returned with a vengeance but it did not stop the crowds of kids from coming out to the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield yesterday for our Butterfingers and friends family show. Facepainting, puppets, balloons and storytelling all mixed in with our snappy, colourful Butterfingers tunes. Brian Sanderson played the souzaphone, a tiny banjo and the fiddle and Ms Marbles sang and danced and told knock knock jokes with our 8 year old mc Anika. What fun. Our next hootenanny is for mine, my brother and Ms Jenny Whiteley birthday at The Cove in Westport, Ontario on January 16. It is a cute, rural town in the hills north of Kingston and the show will have lots of stars playing for sure. All is moving forward towards a fine holiday season. We are putting the benefit machine into gear with our 20th annual fundraiser set for December 21 in Kingston. Also me and the Wrongs recorded a fine version of Blue Christmas for a charity cd that I will post when it is ready. Along with White Christmas that we did a few years back I feel like we are getting pretty handy at the ole xmas tunes. A wonderful gang of people have invited me to California to speak and play shows in March which give me motivation to finish the album Chris Brown and I have been labouring at for the last year. Walt Whitman sure lived up to his name as a wit, i.e., "We were together. I forget the rest.”. From time to time while driving along in the van on tour when one of us is telling a story of past adventures this accurately describes my memory of said event. It is a wonderful thing to have friends and share stories. I appreciated that luxury yesterday while attending an event to celebrate 30 years of the organization "Cornerstone" in Ottawa. Cornerstone is the largest social service organization serving women in the community, providing emergency shelter and supportive housing for a diversity of women. There was games, music, dinner and an open stage where I joined in a rousing version of Coming Round the Mountain, re-written to reflect the work Cornerstone does. The positivity and comradery was inspiring and insightful and something I hope everyone takes the chance to experience. I have visited a few shelters over the years, sometimes to perform and sometimes to deliver money raised at benefits I am involved in from time to time. It is sobering to meet the clients and talk and reflect on their stories. Hearing the stories of struggles, challenges, the twists and turns that brought them to where they are now are generally inspiring and moving. I thought of a phrase I read somewhere, "better by far that you should forget and smile then that you should remember and be sad.". For many people some memories are perhaps best let go and forgotten so that positive thoughts can fill that dark void. Of course I am not saying it as a rule because remembering trauma and dealing with perpetrators is an important process to change the world into a safer place. But a head full of sad thoughts diminishes our ability to move forward and flourish. As the tour date section of this site indicates I am not playing a whole lot this fall in an effort to finish up the album H.Chris Brown and I have well underway over on Wolfe Island. I am actually playing the odd local show in Kingston and up in Wakefield, most notably a big tribute show at Kaffe 1870. 22 Wakefield area songwriters are covering each others songs over two nights. It is something I have always wanted to do in Kingston but Wakefield, due to its size, made it easier to pull together. That and the local spirit and enthusiasm that all of the musicians readily offer up when creative ideas are proposed. I am hoping it will be a template we can use again and again. The goal is also to raise money to build a permanent, outdoor stage at the local community centre where likely all of the musicians will play one day. We sure had a blast at the Nashwaak Festival down in New Brunswick last weekend. They treated us well and we enjoyed everyone we saw play. Gearing up for Wolfe Island this weekend which features the original Wrongs line up including Sean Kelly, Cam Giroux, Dan Curtis and yours truly. Then to tie up a month of good times I am heading to P.E.I. to play the Cloggeroo Festival in Georgetown. Well yes indeedy do we have been having fun in music land up this way. Awna Teixeira and her bandmate Jay and I wowed them on our wee tour of the area. It was particularly swinging good fun on the weekend shows which included the legendary Black Sheep Inn in picturesque Wakefield Qc. Chris Brown and Eil Abrams joined in the fun that night and we put on a nice show for the people. Awna really kills it, that is for sure. We also played the Daverne Barn down Kingston way on the Sunday which was also fathers day so we had Rueben de Groot join the bill for that one and he brought along his little one Zevon to accent the event with some father son fun. Last weekends madness was crazy good times. Our friend and supporter Pam hired me to put together a hootenanny style show for her birthday and man was it ever stupendous! Just a pack of wild musicians feeding on all the love. We had the Abrams Brothers, Justin Bird, Jenny Whiteley, Chris Brown, Miss Emily, Dan Curtis and the Wrongs all firing on all pistons. Emily thought it crazy not to carry on later (as it was an afternoon affair) so we took over the Toucan Pub downtown in Kingston that night where I proceeded to hog the stage and most of the guitar solos. I jumped and jumped and screamed and punked out until Sean Kelly kicked me and my buddy out for looking too good. (and also it was 3 am in Onsquario) There is a little peace in the valley for a few days leading up to our festival run to New Brunswick in early August. Hopefully things will dry up after the crazy storm that hit that area over the weekend. I heard that Stan Fest in Canso was cancelled due to weather, which is saying something as when we played the fest some years back it rained most of the time and the locals really did not make much of a fuss. Canso is in a special spot by the causeway to Cape Breton island in eastern Canada if you wanna check it out on the map. Ahhh, the warm and fuzzy feeling of another successful tour with tremendously talented friends has me all smiles as I write. The remainder of the western swing went off without a hitch but with lots of fun surprises. The aforementioned gig at Lucky Bar involved an afternoon of dress shopping for the band who at that time included Dennis on bass, Joel on lead guitar and Miss Carolyn and I at the helm of the goodship cross dress. It was a women in music night presented by the college/community conference that was on in Victoria. I thought we looked fetching and also played particularly well. Carolyn and I really nailed her hit Dinna Come Over Baby! The next days ferry ride back to Vancouver was sunny and ripe with that scenic gulf island splendor that keeps bringing me back to the west. We were reunited with Rusty and Terri for another tavern show at the Princeton. Again, a banner night. Big version of Rustys new hit, the Rob Ford Song. We scampered up the Cocaholla highway the next day to our house concert at family Colliers stylish home. The weather was again agreeable so we set our things up in the garden so that the good people could sit around us on the porch and enjoy our quirky performance. Lots of great socializing before during and after the show where ended up around a nice fire with even nicer vino and conversation. Hostess Leslie worked tirelessly the next a.m. to feed and coffee us and the other overnight guests so that we could all get away to our next engagements. We made our way directly west to Spences Bridge in the desertlands where we checked into our cozy rooms at The Inn that is nicely set between the trans Canadian railway and The Thompson River. We rehearsed over cocktails in the girls room, pausing every 20 minutes for another 120 car freight train to roll by. I ran over and squashed a toonie which turned out to be sort of disappointing. Steve and crew fed us a great meal and all the locals made for a charming and sold out show at the Packing House that night. My song about Elvis really won over the crowd and one fella said that if the King were still alive today he would be singing my songs. Thats okay. All pistons were firing at the Anza club in Vangroover the next night where we brought the tour to a close with a bang. Great club and a good crowd of all kinds of folks. Paul Rigby joined us on steel guitar, etc and the delightful Kelly Haigh started the night off with a wonderful set. Carolyn had even booked a choir of beautiful singers to play and join us for a few tunes. Decadence! It was time to say goodbye like Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman do. Things are going well out west here on the Blind Date Tour with Carolyn Mark, Rusty Ford and Terri Upton. We rocked the islands, with one more show tonight at Lucky Bar before we boat back to the mainland and do a bit of running around leading up to our big Vancouver show at the Anza club. It does not slow down much upon my return to Wakefield/Kingston area as Awna Teixeira and I pick up next week and play some shows including a hoedown with Chris Brown at the famous Black Sheep Inn on Saturday, June 14. The following week we are joining in the fun at SKELETON PARK MUSIC FESTIVAL It is a wonderful local Kingston festival and we are delighted to play in the park on Saturday June 21 at 1pm.Vangroovy, ahoy!

By all accounts this will be a smooth run in good company as we scoot around the gulf islands and lower mainland with a quick jaunt up Kamloops way and back down on ye ole highway past hells gate. I am going to drink ten protein shakes a day and gain sixty pounds on this tour! And dye my hair red and get another tatoo! Why the hell not? I am an eccentric now right, not a crazy man like before. I am just gathering up my goods to make my way to Toronto via Kingston to play with the Wrongs for some shows. We kick it off at the fabulous Dakota Tavern in T.O. with Ron Hawkins and the Do Good Assassins. Ron and I played a solo show together up here in Wakefield a month or so back and this time we are kicking it with our full bands. Burke Carrol and Dan Curtis will be soloing the shit out of the songs and Jt, Cam and I will sing like the muther fuggas that we are. Burke and I head to Guelph on Friday to do it up with my cousin Rob and his boys at the Magnolia Cafe. In tribute to the show we just watched Magnolia the film by PT Anderson and if have not seen it, do. It is an astounding piece of film art. He pushes and pulls you emotionally throughout and I gotta say, Tom Cruise can really act when he gets the roll. The whole cast is spectacular and I cannot believe that someone came up with and realized the whole thing. We play a smaller show at the Local in Toronto Saturday and then I return to my hometown for a nice Sunday show at the Mansion. Progress is being made in the recording department as well. I did a few days of screaming guitar overdubs a couple weeks back that still have my ears ringing. Big thanks to Mark Michaud of the Wakefield based band Fifty Men for lending me his guitar rig. I sold my baby/electric guitar a few years ago to pay for a much needed personality transplant. Lets face it, we get bored of ourselves after a while, right? Anyhoo, I still gots the chops on the axe as this album, when it is finally done, should attest to. The latest breaking news is an offer to play the Wolfe Island Music Festival in August. For this gig we are hoping to coax the elusive and massively talented, not to mention handsome, Sean Kelly to join us on bass and play as the four hosers that started the band back in nineteen ninety noneofyourbusiness. Stay tuned for that fun news. Lastly, I must say that a day has not gone by without me (and I am sure many others) thinking of Dave Gregg. We will rock in his honour over the next few shows. It is such devastating news to hear that our long time friend, mentor and rock hero Dave Gregg passed away suddenly on Sunday. He was such an amazing dude. His storied rock history with d.o.a. and the Real Mckenzies is legendary. We caroused around Nyc many a night after shows where Dave and Cathy would have shown up (Dave in his kilt and lamb wool vest) with a posse of dynamic friends. Their enthusiasm and joie de vie would always push us to another level of performance. Afterwards he knew the places to go in the city at 2 am where we could get excellent food or hit a little club as the scene there reached its apex of the night. At one point we were playing lots of shows at Ceebees Night Gallery on the Bowery and they used to take us up to the old Chelsea Arms after our shows where the bartender treated me like a king (based on Daves over the top introduction!). He would have me celebrity bartend while he chatted with Dave and Cathy at a table, our cd blaring through the bar. We were together just two months ago at my 50th birthday party and his devilish grin and the glint in his eye will always stay with me. I fucking love you Dave. Your friendship is something so many of us will miss tremendously. Our thoughts and love go out to dear Cathy and the family. Here is a loving bit: R.I.P. DAVE GREGGWahoo!

Oh my lord has it been a cold one. I spent 3 days on Wolfe Island with Chris Brown working on the new album and it was right out of a russian faery tale. Everything short of the wolves chasing the sleigh home from the dance. It is coming together nicely on the music side though and as spring and summer approach we have got a bunch of fun gigs lined up. However, it is hard not to be distracted by world events, as in the crisis in the Ukraine and locally with the Line 9 reversal plan that will move diluted bitumen through the most populated areas of Canada. Such a great year and such a good bunch of numbers. To celebrate we are having a super hootenanny revue at the Black Sheep in Wakefield with a pile of talent. The Wrongs will be represented of course, especially excited about sister Megan Palmer coming up from her current local of Nashville for the event. Oh Susanna is back in the Hoot saddle joined by her teammate Cam bam bam Giroux. Jenny & Dan Whiteley of the Lanark county music mafia will arrive with my half cousin/brohter Joey Wright. Rusty Ford is expected to make a rare public appearance, likely a midst the heavy security detail common for a celebrity like Rusty. Miss Emily Sugarplum has found a gap in her busy schedule to sneak across the Quebec border to wow us with her stellar pipes and folksy charm. Arriving on a magic carpet from fantasy island B.C. will be the grand dame of the Hoot, Miss Carolyn Mark and her top notch guy handsome Dennis who will be holding down the the low end on double bass. Of course there is other secret super star guests coming and we hope that the good people at the Black Sheep Inn will tolerate a 6 hour show! When the dust settles from this mind blower I will be back in recording mode with Chris Brown on Wolfe Island in the old post office. Dear reader, there is something about a well executed, surprise birthday party, eh? Everybody wins with that delightful return to the youthful, giddy, anticipatory, rush of the magic moment when the birthday star enters the liar of love that awaits. Yippee, Yahoos and Yee Haws erupt! Let the games begin!! Such was the case this week at the surprise 7 x10, bday bash for our manger man Skinny. It was held with great stealth at the groovalicious club The Supermarket in Kensington market, T town. His lovely wife and her gaggle of charming daughters snuck us all in to surprise the old fella with cheers, hugs and music featuring most of the acts he has represented over the years. There was the Ron Sexsmith, the Jose from By Divine Right, his royal rockness Ron Hawkins from Lowest of the Low, Noah from hHead, Cuff the Duke, Andrew Cash and many more including Lw & the Wrongs featuring Sean Kelly, Cam Giroux, Burke Carroll and yours truly. We rocked. What fun. Sean is the dude and it was great to be back in the game with him. He has always had the voice that melts the hearts. The fall colours have peaked here in the Gatineau although they are still doing their dance down Kingston way. After a fine summer of shows and music I have geared down and taken unprecedented measures to retool for 2014. For the first time in twenty some years I do not have full shows on the calendar! Beyond resting up some I intend to finish my album that was started in the spring with my pal Chris Brown on scenic Wolfe Island and focus on next spring summers touring plans. I received an awesome offer from the UK which I will reveal after some planning moves forward and the work with Rusty Ford is never done. He made some waves with a Scottish promoter earlier this year that we have yet to follow up on and we are planning out a Canadian, western swing to further promote his remarkable album, My Truck, My Dog & You. I will be appearing at a few events before years end though including A Man Called Wycrafts Tom Waits tribute at Hughs Room in Toronto on November 29th and our annual charity rock show in Kingston on December 22nd. What a great city Halifax is! The Company House is a fine venue for the singer songwriter and although it was a small but mighty crowd I thoroughly enjoyed playing there again. Coming back on the train to Toronto was also a rewarding experience what with the views and the socializing. Their onboard entertainment program is a boon to the touring community. Carolyn Mark and Dennis Siemens traveled by train all the way from Vancouver to meet up in Toronto for us to start our tour together. Very Canadian we thought. Our pal Miranda Mulholland of Great Lake Swimmers and Belle Star fame presented a show for us as part of her Pardale music series and it was a smash hit! They converted a hair salon into a music venue for the night and it was packed out with a good looking crowd of music lovers and players alike. We made our way to London, Ontario the next day for a fun night with our friends in the Rizdales who performed as Hey Loretta. Tara Dunphy is quite the singer and fiddle player and husband Tom has picked up the double bass to add to the mix. Blair their guitar slinger also brought the show and joined us for some hits. Fred Eaglesmiths picnic was a spectacular weekend of music and hanging out. It is an old school, camping festival in a beautiful park near Woodstock, Ontario and Fred is a generous man to out it on. I believe that next year is the 20th annual so if you are in the area make an effort to go! We sailed through gigs in Oakville at the fabulous Moonshine Cafe and Wolfe Island at the newly renovated Grill. Our drummer mate Casey Fisher has really dialed that place in and the view is magnificent, not to mention the food. The blaster of the show was at the Blacksheep Inn as part of Wakefield, Quebecs Wakefest. We had the talent of Miss Emily Sugarplum, Dan Cowboy Curtis, Brian Sanderson and Lotus Wight to beef up the crew and boy did we hit it out of the park that night. Dennis even had fireworks set up to shoot off over the Gatineau River for the grand finale, wowee. I will put some pictures up in the gallery section for you to check out. We did a couple of swell barn shows the next few nights and the last one up at Francs barn included the Whiteleys (Jenny & Dan) and brother cousin Joey Wright. Where has the time gone? Wow. July was hot and wonderful but the heat broke and now cooler temps portend. I must say we recently had a fun run of shows around the Kingston area that included a spectacular and delicious time at Pan Chancho where they host a bbq party on Thursdays. I had both Dan Whiteley and Dan Curtis playing with me which opened up the possibility to play virtually all the songs I have written. And if felt like we dug pretty deep. For someone who forgets passwords or where I put the damn keys I seem to be able to remember a shitload of words when up in front of people. Never could do that as a kid. In fact I couldnt even stand in front of people without flailing into a panic. Those Dans though. Two weirder guys would be hard to find but keerist can they play. It was packed with wonderful folks who enjoyed the cuisine and picturesque patio ta boot. I will be back there for another kick at the can with Ms Carolyn Mark at the end of the summer, mmm bbq. Also of note was our barn concert out Adolphustown way at the beautiful Daverne farm. They jazzed up their barn to suit the needs of a music loving crowd and we certainly had one of those that day. The handsome and talented Joey Wright played a sublime set to the appreciative crowd and was followed by Irish Roots bringing the music of the pub to the mix. Again we will be doing a few more shows there this summer so stay tuned. It is off to the east coast this weekend for a secret mission that includes a gig in Halifax at the Company House. I will be performing solo then making/playing my way back on the train to meet up with Ms Mark and Dennis for a run of fun shows that includes more barn concerts and a big blow out Hootenanny Reuve at the legendary Blacksheep Inn here in my adopted town of Wakefield, Quebec. All that and a bag of chips. Hard to believe that JJ Cale passed this week. There is no time in my life where I did not listen to the man on a regular basis. Oh, hi there . Presently we are driving the long road home from our dear friends wedding that took place on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. What a wonderful place! I have to say that in all my years of wheeling around North America I have never experienced the coastal estuaries of Maryland. Peaceful and rural with more than a touch of southern charm. It was all the more southern flavoured as most of the wedding crowd came up from the Carolinas where the bride and groom hail. I first met goodbride Amber in 2002 when we stormed into The Jack of the Woods pub in Asheville, NC for what was to become our most successful run of shows at any one bar in the U.S.A. My love affair with that city and its people began then and it has never abated. Many shows and visits over the years have only brought us all closer and what a way to celebrate friendship and love then for them to throw a smoking fun wedding with 250 awesome people. The bridesmaids dresses were emblazoned with an orange octopus that synched nicely with my fabulous orange octo suit. I gotta say though, it was steaming hot in that damn suit while I played the pre-wedding cocktail set. Even with the breeze blowing off of the estuary I still must have lost 15 pounds. Luckily I had my lady and our new best friends the iridology twins keeping me hydrated with cold beer and saucy smiles. And once that hot summer sun dropped below the horizon and the ever so romantic nuptials were completed everything fell into place nicely. Funk band, seafood, roast beef, bourbon bourbon bourbon and cigars, even for the ladies. I sure love me American brethren. We lingered on the Sunday for brunch with the family and said many long, huggy goodbyes before hauling ass across the state to Assateague state park. It is on a thin strip of sandy land at the most eastern and southern part of Maryland. It is best known for the wild horses who swam ashore from shipwrecks years ago and have adapted to beach life. We set up camp on the dunes and after a brisk swim in the fresh Atlantic ocean we took a wee nap only to be awoken by said wild horses feeding beside our tent. Apparently they bite and kick if you get too close, which seems to be pretty straightforward but apparently that does not stop upwards of 16 people a year from getting bitten and booted for trying to feed them or pet them. Truthfully? They look like horses. I have never been inclined to feed the domesticated ones potato chips so maybe a good bite or kicking is what some people need to learn a few basics about animal behaviour. After a campfire dinner, a windy sleep and a morning swim we hit the boardwalk in Ocean City just north of the park for coffee and, okay, bloody marys. Back home and settled in after the western swing with the fabulous Rusty Ford and friends. We sure had a good act with Terri Upton on bass backing both Rusty and I up and we were pretty sad to say goodbye to her when we left for Edmonton and points north. Prior to that though we knocked it out of the park in Vancouver at my dear friend Soooosings and in Victoria at our U of Vic friends house, both shows to a well read and congenial crowd. Sunday afternoon had me hosting fathers day at Logans pub where we have been playing since our first Canadian tour back in 1998. Carolyn Mark usually hosts the hoot but she was on tour so I got the job and kept the locals at bay for the most part. The sun shines through the front window and the drinks flow as the songs get sung. A couple of days respite and Rusty and I were on a flight into the drier parts of Alberty to meet up with the gang and play a warm up show for the North Country Fair at The Artery. It was nice travel up a few hours to Slave Lake area where North Country is held. Beautiful, sprawling country and we had plenty of sunshine the whole summer solstice weekend. So many great acts played and it went late late every night. Rusty wowed em with his show that started at 1:30 am on the Friday and then I was up early to play as Butterfingers at 11 the next morning with Grayson from Hearse on accordian. Carolyn, Rusty, Dennis and I were all part of the Stomping Tom Conners tribute show later that day and needless to say Rusty freaked everyone out with his bang on Stomping Tom voice. The wonderful Calvin Weatherall hosted and set the stage for good fun. I snuck off with Hank Pine to the river in the hot part of the day to a lovely river where much hippyness occured. I got so settled in that I forgot about a workshop I was in and ran like the dickens, soaking wet in my long sleeve shirt and pants through the campground to arrive in time. The Hank and Lily disco show was absolutely spectacular! Holy shit are they ever great. Dancers, costume changes adn disco music. CR Avery got stuck in southern Alberty due to the floods but showed up on the Saturday night to kill it as he is wont to do. Ahhh, the good times rolled. It was a lifetime of travelling to get back in time for a supr flood here in Wakefield that washed out the foundation of our favourite local pub at the bottom of the hill. The rains still fall today as everyone readys for the Canada Day festival that is coming up. I will be selling our manmade perogies and later performing with Chris H Brown on the festival stage. Things are going great guns out in the left coast with Rusty Ford and Terri Upton. Check out the photos in the gallery. We have a great show for the people and it was in full flight last night at our friend Soooosins place in Kits. We set up outside and the audience responded in all the right ways at the appropriate times. The sun shines on us today as we set sail to Victoria for more performances and socializing with old and new friends. Terri says her parents are going to feed us even. I am not as adverse to that as in years past. Eating that is... Apparently I am more reasonable when fed.June Bug

I am currently at the airport en route to Vangroover to meet up with the legendary Rusty Ford for our tour. I get to pick the solos for some of the shows, which is a good thing for me as the years of acoustic guitar playing have got me going and Rusty writes a perfect song for my style. We will be wearing our fabulous tailored suits, courtesy of Wendy Suitmaker. In fact she is working on another fabulous suit for me to wear when the octopus suit is just too much. Speaking of clothing I was informed by Carolyn Mark to pack weather wear and be prepared for bugs when we hit the North Country Fair next week up in Driftpile Alberta. That stands to be an amazing way to spend summer solstice. The Hank and Lily Show is something I really look forward to as they are promoting their epic disco album. I will be playing late with Rusty and early as Butterfingers for the kids at the festival. I have been picking away on the tunes in preparation to rock the junior chipmunks and hope to wrangle a few unsuspecting musicos to join me onstage. Yahoo!!the Sun is Made of Cheese

We had an astoundingly musical show at the Rodeo Bar in Nyc last week. We were joined by the fabulous Tony Scherr on guitar and our new best friend Caroline Bugala on violin. She conveniently arrived the night before to New York from France with her mother and sauntered into our Brooklyn gig with violin in hand. After a brief chat (partially In stumbling french on my part) we jammed it out and it was quite apparent how skilled she was with that fiddle! She was also keen to join us the next night at Ny citys longest running honkytonk for the aforementioned big show. Wahoo!! New York city. Currently gearing up for the western Canadian run with Mr Rusty Ford (related to mayor Rob Ford? We do not know...). We are gonna be packing some brand new Rusty Ford tee shirts, stickers and a killer show to put on for the good people of southern B.C. and northern Alberta! Winter just would not quit up here the hills of Wakefield, Quebec but finally April is winding down as we wind up for a spring summer fall of f.u.n. Recording of the new album is going well with Chris Brown at the helm (the Canadian CB, yo) over on Wolfe Island. Gearing up for a flurry of electric guitar overdubs that will define the sound of the album. It is taking shape as a pop record overall, with some wisps of country a la moi. I am looking forward to May and playing with my new York peeps including the fabulous Daria Grace. But this just in! I will be doing a tune at the Idle NoMore event at the Piston in Toronto this Tuesday, Ap 30th. Also featured are members of the Bourbon Tabernacle Choir, Mary Margaret Ohara (!), Sarah Harmer, Jason Colett and more. $10 suggested donation and the food there rocks as well.Marching On

Yup, we had a fine run of shows and such over the last few weeks. The big folk alliance conference was full of friends and fine musicos. Unlike other music conferences it is predominantly attended by musicians and bookers, many of them small venue or concert series types. There is not much of a major label presence (is there such a thing anymore?) but a fair number of smaller labels and a few of those people that take 15 to 20% of your gig money for sending an email and forgetting to send your posters to the gig. Whoa whoa whoa, that does not sound charitable. Speaking of which we did a bit of outreach through the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals community outreach program that asked us to play at the Salvation Army Gateway shelter in downtown. Burke Carroll of the Wrongs joined me for a wonderful little jam in the drop in centre. The folks there were very appreciative and the staff at the shelter as well although we felt it an honour to be able to share what we have with those who are going through a rough patch in their lives. The best things I saw at the conference were The Soujourners, Sheesham and Lotus and Son, The Birds of Chicago and Steve Poltz to name a few of many astounding acts. Plenty of talent from the U.S., Great Britain and Auz too. Friendly, generous types for the most part (except me of course...). Rusty Ford made a good impression on his first outing and no one could ignore him in his fine suit and big hat. We finished up the good times with three shows with Awna Teixeira that hit the high water mark at the Saturday gig in Wakefield at the now legendary Blacksheep Inn where we packed in a house full of darling people for a late afternoon show. They are celebrating 20 years of presenting music and we were proud to return to the stage that has graced many a fine musician over the years. A little girl gave me a rock as a gift for being such a good singer (her words). It was a piece of mica, not just some random rock so I can fix my iron with it or maybe barter it for a goat after the fall of the empire...Wakefield Ahoy!

Well, it seems like it lasts forever some days. But honestly, I am starting to love the cold and winter. Maybe it was those life changing trips up to the Yukon over the last few years or maybe the cold helps numb the pain of age and awareness. Kidding!! You young folks need not worry about growing old. In fact when you get to your late forties you will look back at what concerned you about aging and shake your head in disbelief. Save some freaking money, that is probably the big thing. How many shots of jagermeister does it take to buy a back brace or pay for extended home care? There is a question bartenders should know. Well, anyway, it is getting kind of ranty in here so maybe open a window... I trust all you sweethearts had a fine valentines day. We hosted a perogie night at the local Kaffe 1870 in Wakefield and had music provided by THE Dr Timothy Valenteen. He really came prepared with many cheesy, romantic hits. I believe he nailed every word of Muskrat Love.... Well this cold winter has been a good time for booking shows and scheming up schemes. The big international folk alliance conference is coming up and we will be there for the duration to work the room as it were. I am producing a video or two for Rusty Ford over the next bit and we and going to employ Miami Harald Bachman as our cameraman. We worked together on many film projects together years back in my other life and it will be good to be back in the groove. Jack Grace and Carolyn Mark and I have nailed down a time for another Owner Operator Tour and we will call that time, October. Nothing could be finer. In recent news I hazarded the worst winter storm in years to make it to my gig at The Branch south of Ottawa the other night. Man that fella Bruce makes a delicious brisket! It was worth risking our lives for. There is also rumours of a local hootenanny up Westport way this spring so stay tuned...Video fun from your car window

Ahh the new year is upon us. After some serious holiday fun and mine Jenny Whiteleys annual birthday show we are back at it. Recording is moving along with Chris Brown at the helm and plans for the year are brewing. The big folk alliance conference in Toronto awaits in February where loads of old and new friends will be showing off their musical wares. Rusty Ford is dialing in the artwork for the album I produced and we will be pimping that bad boy as well as hoping to entice some folks to come record up my way in the future. Today is actually my birthday and my pals are taking me skiing if you can believe it. We are not out west like many years where Lily Fawn threw some spectacular parties for me. Really hard to beat the time she had the burlesque dancer jump out of a cake for me. I mean, come on. We are currently planning a New York City run of shows, a western run, as well as looking at what to present locally this summer so keep in touch good people. xo LuMerry Merry!

We had an amazing night at our 19th annual Salvation Army fundraiser! We raised somewhere in the neighbourhood of $7,500 for our local Sally Ann to distribute to those in need in our community. The club was packed with many old and new friends and much dancing ensued. Sarah Harmer, Sean Kelly and all the gang really stepped up to the plate and put on great shows. I was the host with the most and wrangled all the chickens on and off stage and took care of the details but had plenty of help. Kingston really shines at holiday time and the event has become a real special local affair that we look forward to every year. Now the dust has settled and everyone has scattered to spend some time with family and friends. I trust you all have a lovely time as the year winds down and wish you the very best for 2013. xo LwHoliday Magic!

The shorter the days get the longer my heart reaches towards the sun and all she offers. Big news for the end of the year! We are playing our umpteenth Salvation Army Winter Relief Fund Benefit show on December 19th at Stages Nightclub on Princess Street in sunny Kingston, Ontario. It is a fine rock & roll venue where we can pack them in to see a smoking show of Kingston based talent. The full live band experience of hip hop hosers Slaves of Spanky along with Spencer and Funkyfrenz will get us dancing and there is much to be said for the music of Sarah Harmer, your inimitable host Luther Wright, the grab bag of goodness of Deck the Halls with Balls and Kelly featuring Brucey the Git, the ever precious yet commanding Kris and Dee, and surf monsters The Huaraches. Tickets will be on sale via maplemusic.com in a few days and at the club in Kingston as well as Zap Records. And in closing, it is important that everyone watches the amazing documentary film "Inside Job" by Charles Ferguson. Let us see, where did we leave off? Dawson City, Yukon and our last big weekend I believe. The in-school work throughout the week was spectacular! The children are happy and engaged, in no small part because of the super teaching staff. A special shout out goes to Peter Menzies who organized our work there and continues to scheme about music education and our involvement. Our Westminster/pit shows were long, four set-ers but a good musical work out for us. One night we did our show there then went to Bombay Peggys for another hour & 1/2 show to a cheery crowd of teachers in town for a conference. Brown played plenty o piano for sure. His left hand was bruised from all the honkytonk. One fine day we cruised the Yukon river with our friend Holly. He took me, Brown and my dear old pal Miami Harald Bachman on a trip to his cabin he is building up river on a beautiful piece of land. I should mention that Harald is up in the Yukon shooting a reality show about miners so it was kismet that we got to visit again after many years. Back in the day we were card carrying members of the Boy, Dog, Gun Club with Doc Danger (r.i.p.), Deadboy, Big Ran and cousin/half brother Hank Wright. While on the river we also caught a big salmon, ate moose meat from a bull that Holly shot last week and also munched on delicious smoked salmon strips. It was perfect. For our last show in pit our talented musician pals Rusty Ford & Sarah McDougall showed up and joined in the show. Once that was finished we rocked Diamond Tooth Gerties casino for what was the season closing night. The stage show was scandalously delicious and some us played roulette quite successfully between laughter and drinks. The topper of the week was the Harvest Moon festival hosted by Holly & Kerstin. They have a magical, off the grid place in West Dawson, which is across the Yukon river. A good many people came out for a great time on a amazing day. It was a balmy 25 degrees celsius and the potluck, including a pig roast, was delicious! (I do not eat piggy piggy though....) The next, more chilly day we had a big drive to Whitehorse where we returned all we borrowed for the trip (thanks Aiden Tentrees, Bob Hamilton and Mica!) Then a fly day to Vancouver and now we are on the train home where have been playing for our passage thanks to Via Rails onboard entertainment program. A few days rest back home and then I am going to prep for recording a new album (finally) with Brown at the helm. What a banner trip to finish up swell summer. Dawson City I love you so. Here we are on day four here and day seven of our tour. All is well on the western front. The weather has been very suitable for our needs, which are mainly a hankering to hike around between teaching music at the Robert Service School and playing at night. We had a fine house concert the Tuesday at our man Peters place. A nice songy songerson show that contrasts with our kicking bar shows the next few nights. Also the house concert crowd likes a little more yackity yack between songs which both Brown & I are happy to provide. In fact as much as I am happy and somewhat proud of my songs I would prefer to be able to entertain by rambling stream of consciousness stories, jokes and demented observations, peppered with light, political rants. Both my friends, if they are reading this (or can actually even read) would likely argue against that goal but they are not within 2,500 km of here now anyway and I can always find another two friends, probably.... It has been 27 years since I was in the Yukon in September. All the businesses are in transition as the season changes and the transients leave. Saturday is the last night at Diamond Tooth Gerties, ye local casino. Brown and I are quite convinced we can turn our tour cash into something substantial. I am saving for a personality transplant and I believe his goals are more modest. Something like a new tranny for his van (the old one got a job at a strip bar....). We will see who achieves what. Okay, I am stretching it a bit and I will admit that. We have been in the schools all day and my brain is a wee bit rattled. The Robert Service School is a phenomenal institution where the staff obviously care deeply about education. Coming in from away and working with the students gives us a special insight into the vibe of a school and we have both been in a few over the years. Sadly, music programs in public and high schools have been mostly phased out in Ontario where we are from but here in the Yukon they see the value of music in education. We start a three night stint at the Westminster tonight with an early show in the lounge. I have the Charles Bukowski suite on the third floor, replete with stained wallpaper and a tv next door blaring full volume soccer matches. It is a bit of a switch from Bombay Peggys where I lounged around since we arrived. It is nice to have a bit of perspective switch and perhaps sleeping in my clothes the next few nights may not be so bad. And I put up some photographs in the gallery. xo LwYukon!!

The morning of the beginning of tour always has a surreal aspect to it. Knowing that by days end I will be far away, often across the country thanks to the miracle of air travel. And this day was no different as Chris Brown and I left our respective rural homes to meet up in Kingston and begin our trip to the Yukon via Toronto airport and a show in Vancouver with Carolyn Mark, Rusty Ford and Terri Upton. All went smoothly and we even wrangled some fans on the flight to come to the show which already was peopled by dear Vancouver friends and fans alike. A nice first show that portends increased glory as they dates click by. Brown and I have been running the roads for close to 20 years now ever since his old band the Bourbon Tabernacle Choir took Weeping Tile on what was our first national tour and what was to be their last tour after many years of bringing the music to the masses. They all gave Nyc a shot before disbanding and Chris and Kate opted to stay in Brooklyn and lay the groundwork for many a Canadian band to build a following in the city that never sleeps. Over ten years many a musician benefited from Chris and Kates hospitality, knowledge of the city and contacts on the music scene. Not to mention the stellar, late night jams with an ever changing gang of lovely talent. I wrote more songs in their aptly named groovy grotto than anywhere else other than the hideout or the beaches of Mexico. Now we are going to play a good many of them at our Whitehorse and Dawson City shows and we will even be digging out the mellow gems for our return trip on the train from Vancouver to onsquario. Aahh songs. I may be slipping in output but happily am able to sing the ones I have already with a new found confidence. Nothing raises your game like teaching in the schools as we will be doing next week at the Robert Service school in Dawson. The junior chipmunks are little sponges so you gotta bring your A game or they will eat you alive. Well, more likely one withers from the shame of being the boring teacher we all remember from our past. My secret thrill of returning to Dawson is that I will be staying at my ole digs, Bombay Peggys. It has undergone a remarkable transformation since we huddled around the piece of shit, oil drum wood stove, hungry and broke back in the cold spring of 85. Eleven of us shared what was Dawsons last operating brothel, then perched by the banks of the yukon river. It faded but never fell and sometime at the turn of the millennium a couple of inspired women bought it up and moved he whole building to its present, proud location in the centre of town. A substantial facelift and expansion ensued and now it is the jewel of the north. I will wander the halls and speak softly to my old ghosts and lingering memories of a place that holds the lusty dreams and schemes of many a wayward soul.And the Fall begins

Back from ANOTHER great trip to New York City (I love you so...). We played this crazy party at Rodeo Bar for a bunch of folks from L.A. that were in town to start a country music cruise. My buddy Gordie Tentrees and his band, including Roger Marin joined us for the over the top show. It was packed to the rafters and we kicked it our for 6 hours! Megan Palmer held her own on the fiddle and got many cheers for her smoking solos and fine singing. Music aside, we really had a great day at Coney Island as summer shone her last bits of sun and heat. So nice to be on the ocean when in the city. It is hard to believe that in three days time we will be up in the Yukon but that is how we roll. First a gig in Vancouver to warm it up then zoom! To Whitehorse. Our other fun show in Ny was at the hip Brooklyn Rod & Gun Club in Williamsburg where we joined the Whiskey Revue with the Buddy Hollars. Good times. I will keep updates a-coming from the Yukon as we are playing many shows and hanging about Dawson City for 8 days including at the Harvest Moon Festival! I hope to find a big hunk of gold whilst there and I will share it with all of youze...3,500 miles and 400 songs later...

Just another spectacular run of shows including in the 11th annual Cowpie festival in western Michigan. Our new buddy and drummer DJ McCoy killed it and we rocked the hell out of the crowd on a bill with many excellent bands including Donald Kinsey and the Kinsey Report who absolutely shone. We played right before him and got to hang out. He has played and toured with Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Albert King and others. Smoking guitar playing! One of my first and favourite jobs was working at Chez Piggy in Kingston, Ontario. The owners were generous, cultured people who shared their knowledge of food, drink and music readily. Zalman Yanovsky, guitarist for the Lovin Spoonfull stocked the bar with his phenomenal music collection that included Donald Kinsey and I never imagined that I would be on a bill with him one day. After our set he was standing side stage and told me he had never heard music like ours, which I am assuming is a good thing by the way he was smiling and slapping me on the shoulder. Prior to that festival Chicago treated us well again. We did two separate gigs in one night and met piles of great folks. What a town! Our peeps JT & the Clouds and Allison Russell were off in Wisconsin so we crashed at their lovely places. I wish we could have seen them though as the blood runs deep between us. The Wrongs guitarist Dan Curtis shone like the star he is the whole tour which ended in Canada at the wonderful Wesport Music festival in the stunning village of Westport, north of Kingston. Bassist Larry Cook joined us on bass for the tour and wowed them with his tiny ukulele bass with the big sound. As we had to drive from Ny city to Chicago and back to Kingston through Detroit it was the only thing that would fit in the car! No problems though, it sounds huge and fat like a bass should. We had a swinging good show with Carolyn Mark at the Dakota Tavern in Toronto as well as a couple home town shows ta boot. Next up is a barn concert near my place with Carolyn and the likely suspects, a weekend in Nyc with Gordie Tentrees and band from the Yukon. And speaking of the Yukon that is Septembers story. Chris Brown and I are going to Whitehorse and Dawson City for a couple of weeks of shows and in school stuff with the junior chipmunks and swinging through Vancouver on the way up for a show on the 12th. Our return plan is on Via Rail as part of their Onboard Entertainment program that allows us time to sleep, reflect, read, play for the travellers and enjoy the breadth of the worlds second largest country...August, dear August

Ahh, do I ever hate my stupid phone. After writing a nice long update and leaving it for a few days it was erased for some strange not so smart phone reason. So I cracked it in half like they do on Breaking Bad after they make those calls to the po-po. Anyhoo, things have been going quite well on the music front. Jack Grace and Jason Mercer came up from Nyc in June for a run of great shows including the best barn dance in recent memory. We did plenty of swimming in between gigs, either in the Gatineau river or Adolphus reach. I am currently sitting in my pal Martypants living room listening to the master of Rusty Fords record which we have been working on for a good spell. It sounds amazing! Next up is our run of shows that starts with rehearsals in New York City and takes us through Pittsburgh, Chicago, Grand Rapids, MI, Detroit rock City and back to Canadia where we have some fun shows including a Dakota Tavern gig with Ms Carolyn Mark. After that I really have no excuses not to start recording my album. But I am sure I will figure some way out to procrastinate... On the blog front I really had written some clever stuff that got lost in the ether and will endeavour to repeat at least that quality soon!Train I Ride

I watch the vastness that is Canada pass by through the window of my cabin on Via rail train two as we make our way east towards Ontario. It is a magical world on the long haul train. People lurch through the hallways to hear me perform a few times a day in the dome cars. (The lurching is movement related as opposed to the usual reason!) The Via staff are exceptionally wonderful and friendly. The concept of on-board entertainment is genius as it provides another cultural element to an already fabulous journey as well as allowing musicians the chance to travel peacefully to or fro a tour. Many years of crossing this land flicker through my mind like a light fantastic. It is no surprise that it is a big place, Canada. And not many people really. I am never not surprised or amazed by how beautiful people really are when you get a chance to talk with them in a comfortable situation. I think I love that as much or more than I love playing music. Perhaps I should just admit that the music thing is really only a tool for me to get to engage with other humans. My friend Mark is a mechanic and I see that in him too. Except he can fix cars where I can maybe fix your mood for a bit. Train travel seems to bring out the best in people. We are seated at random together for the 3 delicious meals they serve each day and in both my trips I have never had an awkward situation. Again I must say that the staff set a pretty comforting level of goodwill which spreads through the cars. I am particularly curious as to how they like their work and without exception everyone seems content. We are closing in on Winnipeg where they switch over the crew and we continue on to Toronto. I am hoping to visit a few friends, however briefly, in the two hour window we have there. (Last time we did this and stopped in the peg it was February and two in the morning!). I recall that the Times Changed Pub is a few blocks from the train station and we played there with Jack Grace a couple years back. I recall some sort of rubber chicken tossing game being played into the wee hours. Then there is one big day and night push through to Toronto and civilian life. We are heading back into BC after a stint in Alberta that included a fun show in Edmonton at the Artery where they always treat us right. The fabulous Sarah Hart played with us. She is a real star on the fiddle and a great person who we all miss out on the road. Twin Butte was once again spectabulous! Ms Jenny always gives us the royal treatment and the locals are fun people to play for and carry on with. Rancher country and big sky. We had a day off so we went horseback riding and visiting to the ranch of friends of Carolyns. Spectacular landscape and peaceful living. We have convened for The Owner Operator Tour featuring Carolyn Mark, Jack Grace, Terri Upton and yours truly. A brief visit to Victoria and the Hooteanny behind us now we made our way to sunny Vancouver (really actually sunny) for rehearsals and business fun before kicking off the tour at the fabulous Biltmore. Oh New York, how we cannot stay away from you for long. My lonely drive through upstate was highlighted by wet snow and frantic text messages concerning a faulty master cd at the manufacturing facility. Not much I could do from the road though so I stuck it out to Bearsville where I picked up Jack Grace and ripped it down to the city. We went straight to Patsys pizza up in Harlem area. Apparently that is where pizza was invented and it sure is good. There was a huge table of huge guys waiting. All pals from high school and very friendly. Boisterous and New Yorkers full stop. I am six foot one, 165 lbs and looked like a ten year old compared to these giant, ex-football offensive lineman. They make em big down in America. I am doing four shows down here. A great warm up at Cafe Steinhof that included a delicious Austrian meal and some fine beer. The band this run includes Bruce Martin on drums and accordion, Megan Palmer on fiddle and vocals and new comer Larry Cook on double bass. Great singing! We had it all.going on the next night at the Rodeo Bar as well. It must have been close to our 20th gig there over 11 years. Always a good crowd and good time although a segment of my loyal Canadian following was absent due to the crushing defeat of the Ottawa Senators by the NY Rangers that night. It is spring in New York but still cool. Megan and I wandered through Prospect Park and found our way to bass man Benny cha chas place to view their fresh baby boy. Pretty cute! Lots of breeders in Park Slope and as it is Saturday today the streets are full of strollers and the park is loaded with baseball games and frolicking folks. Hmmm, a guy just sat down near me and stripped down to his gitch for some sunning. Must be european, they do that there. Maybe I will wander over to the ball game... Last night we rocked the Brooklyn Rod & Gun Club. A group of hipsters and artists filled out the funky room and we wowed them with our oh so sophisticated sounds. Williamsburg is definitely a groovy area. Last show is there tonight with Steak, Jack Graces jam band from the 90s. On this end of things we are plugging away on details for the spring/summer & fall shows as well as mixing mixing mixing the aforementioned albums I have been recording. New York City awaits at the end of this month but not before we play host to The 50 Men from Wakefiled, Quebec. It will be their Mansion debut. Local Kingston, honkytonk upstarts Liquorbox are also on the bill for a big night of shit-kicking music. Jack Grace and I are heading west in May to join up with Carolyn Mark for our owner/operator tour that takes us around BC and Alberty for what will be an amazing show. Greetings from the sunny south where we have reacquainted ourselves with places and people that have been near and dear to my heart. Asheville, North Carolina especially holds a special spot in my thoughts as we have played there numerous times over the years and have many made wonderful friends. It was so good to see the gang again at our man Chad Battles great club called The Bywater. It lies on the banks of the French Broad River and by all accounts is doing really well. Allison Russell, JT Nero and I played to a packed house of folks and it made me think of how I much I love American music lovers. They really never forget you once you have won them over, even after an absence of 5 years. My homeland of Canadia is certainly full of fine people but they are surely a fickle bunch. I feel like it is a bit of a roller coaster of discovered, forgotten, discovered then forgotten again. And that can all happen in a two year span! Ahh, whadyagonnado? There is so much great music being made and performed that it is hard to keep up. Currently I am sitting in a sweet courtyard in St Augustine, Florida after an afternoon at the beach. So nice to be hot again after the winter months. Next stop is historic Savannah, Georgia.March on!

Just a quick update. We are heading south to North Carolina to play Asheville at the Bywater, owned by our old buddy Chad Battles who worked at Jack of the Wood back in the day with all our Ashevegas hommies. I cannot wait to see everyone and get back to one of my favourite American cities. Allison from Po Girl and Jt Nero will meet us there. I hear that we can even float down the river to our gig which rivals last years arriving by snow machine to the gig in Dawson City as a damn fine way to get around. On the recording front I am just at the mixing stage for both the fabulous Rusty Ford album and local Wakefield heroes The Standardbreds. Spring will be full of music. January. A leader of months and a month of leaders. Or that is what we like to think being born this month. Jenny Whiteley and I did our birthday shows with cousin brother husband (to Jenny) Joey Wright. One in scenic Brooke Valley near Perth, Ontario and the other on pretty ole Howe Island at the mouth of the St Lawrence River. We have not seen each other in a spell so it was great to hear and play new songs. Rusty Ford tagged along and played a few of his hits from the album I am producing and is nearing completion. On the whole recording front: Wakefield country rockers, The Standardbreds, album is moving along well and has many fine, catchy tunes that set the roots worlds ablaze. Dan Whiteley also has an excellent roots album under way that we started before Christmas and features multi instrumentalist Christine Bougie and Stars singer Amy Milan. Hopefully when I get all that done I will put the paddles to the body of my own album (!!). We are currently winding down at an undisclosed location with my Po Girl sisters Awna Teixeira & Allison Russell after a fun weekend of music, food, shows and recording. JT Nero was along for the ride too. Chicago is home to his phenomenal band JT & the Clouds who we met in California about eight years back and have since toured with a few memorable times. Awesome country-soul music. He and Allison Russell just finished a duo album last week which is chock full of killer tunes that they featured at the shows this weekend. So much good music! I will be rocking with the Wrongs in Toronto soon at the popular venue The Dakota. Songsmith and young gentleman Patrick Brealey kindly put the gig together with he and his band. Well well well here we are at the end of another fine year. I just pulled back into Kingston after a spectacular New York City run. Hit town and got to see sister wrongs fiddler Megan Palmer playing with her band at the Rodeo Bar and they were stupendous! World class band lead by a world class talent. I got to join them for a couple of hits, which is a nice way to be welcomed to New York. The next night Megan and I played in Brooklyn at the Cafe Steinhof where we were joined by bassist Jason Mercer (long time Wrong and also Ron Sexsmiths bass guy). A cozy gig full of friends and friendly faces. That day Jack Grace led his radio pals from Ireland around little Italy for a tour that I tagged along with. We saw all the famous spots and the Irish folks were particularly keen to see where scenes from the Godfather and other such films were shot. We dined at Johns on 12th street, a traditional Italian restaurant which has maintained their quality and style for many years in a shifting world. After that feast we busted it to Brooklyn for the gig. Our Rodeo Bar show was another splendid affair featuring in the all star band: Tony Scherr on guitar (bassist with Bill Frisell and Sex Mob), Daria Grace on bass (singer/bandleader of the Pre War Ponies and bassist in The Jack Grace Band), Bruce Martin on accordion (keyboard player in the Tom Tom Club and member of the Jack Grace Band) and drummer Russ Meissner (The Jack Grace Band, The Sean Smith Quartet and many others). In the crowd were Dave Gregg, founding member of punk legends DOA and also fellow Canadian country dynamo and friend Cord Lund. I knew we were rocking it when an effusive Korean woman had me sign an autograph and then stuffed $120 in my pocket. Extra christmas cake for all! Speaking of that, our 17th annual Salvation Army Benefit Show is set for December 21st at the Mansion in Kingston and promises to be un gran spectac. Hi! We have just put the finishing touches on a live album. And by "we", I mean myself & Dan Whiteley with our friends from New York, The Jack Grace Band. It was recorded at The Acoustic Grill in Picton, Ontario which is quite close to home for me. Steve and the Acoustic Grill folks have been presenting live music for a good stretch now and I believe we are the fifth live cd they have produced with local musician/producer Brent Bodrug. Our up coming shows in November is where we will kick off the unofficial release and it will be available on our websites at that time as well. Hallo from Berlin! It is quite the city and we have seen alot of it in the last 4 days. Nice to see some freaks again. Soooo many young people here and art rules the city. I have not been here since 1989 when the wall was still up so it is a trip to wander through the former east. The gig in Luzern, Switzerland was awesome fun especially as it turned out our host was from Newfoundland and lived in a castle where we stayed up on the edge of town. It is a touristy town but still worth the visit. As well as seeing a bit of France we toured through the Black Forest en route back to our home base in Speyer, Germany where we enjoyed the Pretzelfest (yup, you heard me right). It is a hundred year old event that rivals the CNE for you Canadian types. But of course the beer is much better. We tripped up to Hannover area for a great gig at Rainers Rockhouse where many a Canadian has graced the stage and we were made very welcome by Rainer the host. I gotta say, they sure love the blues over here. (I of course have them but do not play that style as I am just a white boy through and through.) In breaking news, so to speak, I share a common country music ailment that afflicted Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, that being a freaking sore back! Ahhhhhhhh! Alas Berlin has a history of druggies so they do not sell the muscle relaxants over the counter like we get in ole Canadia so it is advils and tequila until the pain abates enough for me to walk. Shitballs, you can see where this may lead. I will be back in the homeland in a few days and sort it out but not before a trip to Hamburg and one more show. Summer is all set up with gigs and a chunk of recording as well as plans for fall fun. Notably, I am playing bass with Wolfe Islands Open Hearts Sociey which has actually lead me to a problem with a tendon in my hand.... I am a wreck from georgia tech!! It is great to get inside someone elses songs and also to sit back and let someone else make the decisions. That band features Chris Brown from the Bourbon Tabernacle Choir/Chris Brown & Kate Fenner and Eric Shenkman from the Spin Doctors as well as Sarah McDermott, the founder of the Wolfe Island Music Festival on vocals. Summer has finally come to our neck of the woods and it was nice to be in the country recording. I had Mitch Anderson out getting the rest of his full length country album started and then had Wakefields, The Standardbreds out for a great rocking session. Ahhh finally we get some heat! The western tour with Carolyn Mark was a blast. We had perhaps what was our most successful Victoria Hootenanny Revue at Lucky Bar with Marco from Meatdraw, Hank & Lily, Mitch Anderson, Jay Macglachlin and her man and of course Carolyn & I. Our warm up show on Gabriola was also treat, replete with a limo ride and a seaside cabin sleep over. For Seattle, Portland & Eugene it was just Carolyn & I doing a snazzy duo show. The sunny days combined with generous hosts to show us around made for good fun. Vancouver hosted our last gig of the tour and it went quite well. Meredith there throws a mean speakeasy gig and Ford Pier made it out to accompany Carolyn on piano for her set. Now it is back to recording work and local gigs while all the time scheming and dreaming. Europe in July will be swell for sure and there is always more Nyc planning to do as well as a dream to return to the Yukon and Alaska this fall. Weeping Tile plays Lees Palace June 10 with the Harmer sisters, Cam and I all keen to rock it. Loads of fun jamming out the old hits and planning wardrobe. I am also branching out and playing bass with The Openhearts Society for some shows this summer. Bass is fun for the brain. We had a smashing good time at The Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield recently with Openhearts, Sheesham & Lotus and yours truly. A hootenanny of sorts.Heading West and etc

After the good ole election (wha happpend!) and a run of fun shows in the area I am heading to the coast for some fun shows with sister Carolyn Mark and friends. We will be going as far south as Eugene, Oregon to play our ole standby Sam Bonds Garage but then have to race back for a May holiday weekend show in Vancouver at Ms Merediths. It is her birthday even! The shows in Victoria feature Hank & Lily and Marco from Meatdraw as well as Mitch Anderson. It is a Hootenanny Revue of sorts and portends the revitalization of that ole roving Hoot. I just saw brother Shuyler Jansen in Wakefield and sister Jenny Whiteley at a farm concert so the forces are moving together. I am also reprinting all of our catalogue for sale including Rebuild the Wall, Rogers Waltz, Hurtin for Certain, Instrumentality, Man of Your Dreams, LWDW, the two Butterfingers cds and of course we still have Guitar Pickin Martyrs. Yup, it has been a super good time lately what with the Jack Grace Band coming up from NYC to play a string of wonderful shows culminating in a live recording of both bands at the Acoustic Grill in Picton. That will be ready this summer and promises to bring a smile to your mouth and perhaps a tear to your eye. We scrambled out of bed the morning after the recording show (and post show celebration) to a blustery morning on the Adolphus reach. A quick run through Kingston for to make some clerical errors and we were heading for ye ole U.S. border and that nights show at the Ear Inn on the lower west side of Manhattan. Thankfully our gig was not until midnight as we had to drop Ms Daria off in Bearsville, NY before balling that jack into the city via Brooklyn where we kept the car running outside of Russ the drummers house for so for him to grab some drums. Got to the venue at 11 though, so there was time to have a fine meal and to greet Skip the bass player for the show. He seems like a real mench. Plays with Steve Martin on his bluegrass record and managed to finangle his way through my not so straightforward songs. Our day off was spent with Jack Grace and I scheming on schemes and then hitting the Living Room for Mike Farios album release show. His record was produced by long time wrong Jason Mercer and the most excellent show featured Anna Egge on vocals, fellow Canuck Matt Maze on guitar and a slew of other talent. We worked our way through the good warm up gig at Cafe Steinhof in Brooklyn the next night. Warm up meaning that it was the first time we had played as Daria Grace on bass, Megan Palmer on fiddle and Bruce Martin on drums with everyone singing. Holy crapshit is that a good version of the Wrongs as we proved the next two nights, especially the friday show at the Rodeo Bar where we KILLED IT! I was tempted to hang up my six shooters and never kill another man after that, I tell ya. Of course it is not that simple as shows are booked and plans have been laid for recording and such. The Jenny & Dan Whiteley with Riley Baugus album is soon off to be mastered and then release is imminent so keep an eye out. Oh and another thing. We have our first endorsement deal! Spring is easing its way back into the area and with it new plans and such. Dan Whiteley and I have been playing a few shows lately, which is always a treat as he is something else on the mandolin. He and his sister Jenny Whiteley (two time Juno winner) along with Riley Baugus (performs with Allison Krauss and Robert Plant, Willie Nelson and many others) from North Carolina were out at my place for a week recently. I recorded them over a few days and we came up with a wonderful, old tyme album that was done live in the cabin by the lake. Each of them sings or leads on four songs a piece and it is something to be proud of. Hell, I am! Producer/musician/Broken Socialite Marty Kinack set me up with some fine mics and such and now that I have it all plugged in I plan on charging ahead with my own album. Counting the above mentioned project this will be the 8th full length record I have produced at the sweet cedar cabin on ye lake. In legal developments, Carolyn Mark and I are in negotiation to continue our touring together. This time we will hit it with Hank & Lily out on the west coast and then travel down the coast to Eugene, Portland and Seattle. But before that happens it is time for another swap up with the Jack Grace Band. They will be coming up here in April and I will follow them home and rock New York City and upstate. And in other news I am putting together a little run of shows in Germany and environs for July if any of you has any contacts or input. Greetings from the train home from the west! We are winding up our northern tour of wonder and have loved every minute of it. The graciousness of the people is only rivaled by the astounding, natural beauty. The drive to Skagway Alaska being one of the most spectacular drives of them all. But then again the Anchorage to Homer Alaska drive boggled the mind as did most of Alaska in general. And of course Dawson City is the bomb, even though Bombay Peggys was not open yet. We also were playing music in the schools as well, which made for early mornings to match our late nights. However the rewards were plenty once we whipped the junior chipmunks up into a musical frenzy playing songs like The Harold Harvey Rink and Dave the Frog. Three nights at the Pit in Dawson City got us up to speed playing with the newest Wrong, Ken Hermanson. He is a splendid chap and multi instrumentalist who lives in Whitehorse and plays with Gordie Tentrees (who arranged the whole tour!). Our old pal Mitch Anderson was along for that part of the trip doing his new originals mixed in with some Stomping Tom songs. Great fellas to hang with, I tell ya. Ken and Jason Mercer also did all the driving and I road shotgun for the 5,000 km of scenic perusing. We went from Dawson all the way to Skagway Alaska for the next show and played with the talented Sarah Macdougall at a lovely art centre for an appreciative crowd. Skagway is the gateway to the north for people traveling by water up the inside passage along the B.C. coast. The gold rush trail starts there and prospectors and dreamers had to ascend the nearby Chilcoot Pass to reach the Yukon River and make their way to Dawson where their hopes could be fulfilled or dashed. We went back to Whitehorse for two more shows with Mitch and Sarah which were fun, noisy and crazy. By the 2nd night we were pretty zonked from the first weeks action but managed to pull it together to get to Haines Junction the next night for a theatre show. Very civilized in comparison. No rest for the wicked the following day as we reported to the local school for a full day of music and teaching. Whew. We stopped for a bracer afterwards and then drove two hours to Destruction Bay to sleep and then go to the local school there for a morning concert. There are 8 students at the wee school and they and their teachers are very sweet. The same goes for the later days concert up in Beaver Creek near the Yukon/Alaska border. Small, rural schools full of love and hope. We got hugs and quesadillas to go before heading into Alaska and driving until midnight to reach Talkeetna. It is an old town that is the base for the Denali mountain range where you will find the tallest mountain in North America. We stayed and played at the Fairview Inn, a rustic old hotel full of characters. We spent the day jamming in the lobby and meeting locals. One old fella knew Kingston as he had done time at the pen there. Plenty a back story with northerners I am finding. Our show there was super fun and it set us up for two nights at the greatest venue in the world, The Taproot in Anchorage! Holy wonderful batman. Run by a team of experts who have got grooves, moves and good food, we played and gushed and told them all our jokes until we had to leave for Homer. Much hugging and promises of returning barely stopped the weeping but it can be hard to leave some places. Homer was nice but we were barely in and out as we had to leave diabolically early in the morning after the show to drive the 18 hours back to Whitehorse for our last show. Thankfully it was with the gifted Geoff Berner so we only played one set of tunes and then sat back to enjoy his excellent performance. Boom bang boom and here we are on the train home, playing for our passage and resting up for home life and the next adventure. Wackedy smackedy-doo...2011 Lets Go!

Happy new year! As it goes now we are preparing for a return trip to the Yukon and a slew of shows set up by the man on the scene Gordie Tentrees. This time we are venturing into Alaska as well where we hope to experience some of that Sarah Palin Alaskan magic. Last year our tour was mostly house concerts, which was a cozy tour in itself but this time up we are hitting the taverns and bars of the north to play for the drinking crowd.Have a Wonderful Holiday Season!

Thanks to all the people and businesses who supported our big Salvation Army fundraiser the other night in Kingston, Ontario. Zappas Lounge was packed with smiling faces and the entertainment was great. We managed to rock out some Weeping Tile hits after the level of energy in the room had been driven up by stellar performances by the fabulous Slaves of Spanky, the unpredictable Deck the Halls with Balls & Kelly, Kingstons good time girls (and boy) Pelt, Sticky, Emily Fennell, the Hackappellas and of course Sarah Harmer and yours truly with Wrongs guitar whiz Dan Curtis. We raised over $8,500 for the local emergency relief fund of the Sally ann which provides basic social services to individuals and families in need in our community. I toured the new facility which was very active with volunteers packaging up food for the holidays for over 2,200 local families. On top of a food bank and a program for children they also have a comfortable drop in room that is being outfitted with showers and laundry facilities for those who live on the streets and in local shelters. They have an extensive system involving a trained staff with integrated connections to other social services to help people find the support they need for a wide range of issues including addiction and mental health, financial shortcomings and abuse. These issues will affect all of us at some point in our lives either directly or indirectly. Public awareness of the needs of our community makes a big difference for organizations such as the Sally ann and the local Partners in Mission food bank in delivering support. It is important to note that the Salvation army and other faith based organizations deliver or coordinate the majority of social services in Canada. Most touring bands are doing just that right now while the schools and clubs are rocking and the race is on to get’er done before the snowy roads get too diabolical. Not that February doesn’t see the highways full of white knuckled drummers behind the wheels of sketchy vans, an hour late for soundcheck in North Overshoe, Ontario. We are rocking around a bit with the Jack Grace Band and Carolyn Mark later in the month and heading to Nyc for shows and Christmas shopping at the turn of December. Greetings my children. I speak with such benevolence due to my recent advancement up the spiritual ladder. Yes, I am now a certified ordained member of the clergy of The Church of Spiritual Humanism. August has done us solid in central Canada. Lots of sunshine and warm nights. To end it up I crossed the southern part of the province to play with The Rizdales at their cd release show in their hometown of London. And a nice end of summer wedding up on Georgian Bay where my friend Sarah and I sang The Land of Milk and Honey as part of the ceremony. Currently recording a version of White Christmas for the food bank charity cd. My nieghbour thinks it is odd that I am blaring holiday music mid summer but that is how we roll these days in Adolphustown. I will be keeping the mics plugged in to tackle my new recording project. I am so excited as I have the honour and thrill of being chosen (over so many other skilled producers!) to record a wonderful, local songwriter who has a veritable plethora of brilliant songs. Hello summer! Wha happened? Seems like I just got back from tour but it has been 5 weeks of summer fun, mostly writing and picking on the banjo out in the country. Played some fun weekend shows and have started the recording process but mostly swimming, biking, and sipping cool bevies by the water whenever possible. Got some sun on my scottish canadian hide and am looking forward to another month of much the same. We play a local festival in Verona this weekend and then head to p.e.i. for some secret adventure involving recording, beaches and lobster (x beer ÷ barbecue!). The end of summer I will be joining my favourite Canadian husband & wife band, The Rizdales for a couple big shows to celebrate their cd release. I think I will get a haircut and a clean shave...Homeward bound!

Holy moly what an epic journey it has been! Our last shows in Colorado were super fun as we added some of Jacks old buddies onto the bill and got to stay with very wonderful folks at their lovely homes. Boulder is really a nice town and the Boulder Theater where we played is one of those grand old venues. Winding down at Gibbs ranch house for the last two days was perfect. Roosters and chickens poked around in the yard and the horses grazed in the back forty. Some great fans came out too as I seem to have a few die hards scattered about America. Playing music with Jack & Daria Grace and Bruce Martin is a real treat and I cannot wait to show them off at this years Elphin Roots Fest (June 26). As I write this I am sitting in Buffalo after a crazy day of flying. I am just a bus, a train and a car ride from home sweet home. Five weeks away can only mean that my lawn is a wild field and the one house plant I have managed to keep alive all these years is likely dead. But hey, its summer and I am going swimming!!!!Turning the corner and heading home

The west coast of America is an old friend that welcomes us back every time with open arms. We ended the Canadian portion of the tour and I separated from the cell to stay an extra night in Victoria to dine with my ole Kingston peeps Matter and Lisa who had me, Carolyn and Mitch over for barbecue, wine and stimulating conversation laced with our unique brand of prison town wit. The next morning my head was as foggy as the bay when I caught the Victoria clipper that sails out of Vic harbour to downtown Seattle. Nice calm trip though. Seattle and Eugene and Sacramento were fine shows that lead us to the San Fran weekendorama. I stayed the night in Sac with my ole hommie Kelly and took the Amtrak down into the city to meet the missus at a downtown hotel where we ventured forth in search of adventure and good timez. We hung off the sides of the cable car through town, walked the piers looking at the ocean, bridges and Alcatraz, and eventually met the band for cocktails at House of Prime Rib (we went on to the Ton Yong Thai for the best meal ever!). Our first bay area gig was up in Fairfax and meant that we stayed at our friend Jules awesome home. A family of deer grazed on the grass under our window and the flowers and air smelled so fresh and lush. The weather was perfect for a day trip to Stinson beach along hwy one and was just the right thing to warm our bones before our big San Francisco show at Cafe du Nord. It was a fantastic night of music and the love and laughs did not stop until late late. Breakfast at a swell cafe and we were on our way east where two days of driving gets us to Colorado for the last 3 shows of the 28 shows in 32 days. As the tour finishes...West Coasty

Greetings from the open seas where I am riding the Clipper ferry from Victoria to Seattle. We shoot down the coast now and back through Colorado to wind it all up. The Canadian shows were spectacular! Everyone loves The Jack Grace Band and each show was super good. The gulf islands were everything we had dreamed of as Carolyn Mark joined the show as well as Mitch Anderson. Two nights in Victoria also rocked but I am tired man. Whew! Okay, I am over Venus losing in the final in Madrid. Look, they did win the doubles and are now ranked second and as well Venus moved up to number two (Serena is of course currently ranked number one). If they win in doubles at the French Open which starts next week, they will be number one in doubles and the ranking queens of tennis. Come on people, give me a YAR! Oh yeah, the tour is splendalicious as well . We are in Saskatoon now at the fabulous Senator Hotel. Oldest hotel in the city where we have booked into since the Weeping Tile days back in nineteen-ninety-none-of-your-business. The local paper listed us their top pick with the suggestion that if you do not have tickets for the Tom Petty concert then we were your best bet. Hey, I will take that. Looking forward to playing Shuyler Jansens song Jealous Girl here in his hometown tonight. We played on the radio today too where Jack Grace wowed them with his Brooklyn wit and charm. Yar!!Ahhhhhh!

Alrighty then. Day 5 of the tour and here we are in New York City where this cool weather is vibing my jive man. Super good times playing with the Jack Grace Band as the Wrongs. Looking forward to the west coast and showing these folks the Canadian rockies. First though we are scooting across the mid west with Megan Palmer on fiddle up to the Chicago dates. And the prairies in Canada were booked for us by Shuyler Jansen my ole buddy and one of my favourite songwriters of all time. Why this guy is not huge and famous bewilders me. His album Todays Remains is an actual masterpiece. I mean it. If the first song, Pegasus, does not blow your mind I strongly suggest you see a doctor about a personality transplant because you are dull as dish water if that shit dinna move you. What was i saying before that rant? Oh yeah, Canada. Carolyn Mark took care of our western needs and is joining the posse for the B.C. shows that includes a slew of island visits. Never played Saturna island before so that will be fun. Why, hello! I have finally made it home after two weeks more music and adventure in New York City where we did everything everywhere and played many shows. The Yukon experience still rings in my head though. There is only so many places one can be at once and I try to accelerate that factor but end up feeling pretty melancholy by the end of the day so I have to stop now for a bit, collect my strength to do it all again. The lake is still frozen over in front of where I live but two beautiful white swans just flew by announcing the change in seasons. Geese are also honking by overhead at regular intervals. The remnants of last years corn on the nearby fields must make this particular area a popular travel destination with our honky buddies. (I wonder why white people are called honkys? I will google it later.) New York highlights were lead by our gig at The Ear Inn. It is an old pub on Spring Street in the lower west side that has survived from the early 1800s through years of development and change. Jack Grace has had a regular gig there for ten years now and like so much else, he shared it with us. Teddy Kumpel joined the band on lead guitar for Hill Country and a last minute Banjo Jims gig and man, can he ever play! The Rodeo Bar gig was a zoo on a friday and full of characters both young and old. Mitch Anderson brought the house down with the Hockey Song by Stompin Tom Conners. He and Jason Mercer saw the Rangers beat Philly at Madison Square Gardens before our last show in Brooklyn at Superfine. That area under the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges called Dumbo rules! Old cobblestone streets and converted warehouses. Jan Bell and the folks there treat us so super fine. Next up is a local show with Sarah Harmer, Fred Penner, Chris Brown and more as part of an informative event regarding the federal governments plans to close the prison farms. Kingston has two working prison farms which by all accounts provide actual rehabilitation through farm work. As well they produce foodstuffs for all the area prisons and local food banks. The herds of cows are an old line too and pump out 2,000 litres of milk per day. I will put up info links later. Ciao for now!New York and all

Greetings from New York City! For the 2nd year in a row I was here during the Billy Jean King Cup that takes place at Madison Square Gardens and this year Venus Williams won. She is on a winning streak, god love her (I sure do). Hmmm, it has been a long road down from the Yukon via Vancouver but that is how this crazy game called rock and roll is played. We had a fantabulous show in the now former olympic city to display our northern chops before heading back to Onsquario for a brief but mighty rejigging of the relationshipness. All is well on ye home front but damn, I miss my mom. Tivoli, Ny started off this current run of shows and we have added fiddler Megan to the mix of our already tight team of experts. The musical up shot is that she sings, solos and smells better than Jason and I. Jack Grace is also now at the helm as nyc is his turf (in contrast to my northern sphere of influence). We play a slew of shows here and around before the road eventually leads me back to my private life at an undisclosed location where plans are afoot to record a new album. Yup, new and I am gonna do it. Right on. Well, remember to hold the door for older people and check your rear view mirror for unwanted attention. Holy wowzers! We are on the plane now from Vancouver to Toronto where we continue on by land to Nyc and the next weeks of music and fun. Our last western show was a smash hit what with Carolyn Mark and Pigby at the Wise Hall in Vangroovy. Such a beautiful sounding room to sing in. We started the night off which allowed us to enjoy the others music and mingle with our posse of sweet friends. All in all we are certainly happy to be heading towards our loved ones but melancholy about leaving all this adventure behind. The Yukon will resonate in our consciousness indefinitely as it is prone to do. Vancouver hosts so many transplanted Kingstonians that it feels like a second home. And with the olympics going strong it is more vibrant than ever. How the city survives the economic death star that is the Olympics remains to be seen. Watch how Greece fares in the next little while to get an idea what we may in for. The little country that could is reeling from hosting the games. What a good time we had in Old Crow, Yukon! We flew up from Dawson City after a packed show there. Nice to return to Dawson after so many years and to play for such great folks. Old Crow is a fly in community of the Vuntut Gwichin people, which means people of the lakes. They have been in the area for thousands of years and we were so lucky to go there and get a small sense of the depth of their connection to the land. And play music of course. Everyone was very welcoming and we were met by our host Dorothy Frost who was also hosting a biologist named Ann who had arrived to help facilitate a meeting of researchers taking place just as we leave. They are coming up to share their findings and research about a variety of environmental issues affecting the north and specifically the area north of Old Crow that contains a slew of lakes rich in fish and critters that provides food for the community. Caribou is also a dietary mainstay in the north as well and we have eaten our fair share. The community is thriving in Old Crow according to our wonderful host. There is something going on every night it seems. The love shown towards the children and elders is something we could learn from in our settler culture. There was much laughter wherever we went. We played a show at the centre and an afternoon show at the school. We went for a great hike up the mountain on the edge of town one afternoon to get a birds eye view of the porcupine river and surrounding area. The temperature was a balmy 24 below celsius and we were actually sweating by the time we turned around to head back. Our last night there we tagged along to a dinner and presentation hosted by parks Canada. They are working with various levels of government and the community to develop strategies for the Vuntut national park which is north of the Old Crow flats where all the lakes are. Ann explained to us how they believe the lakes are formed and how global warming is causing rapid changes in the area. We are just descending back into Dawson City over the white, stark mountains along the mighty Yukon River. We have the night off for me to show Jason the sites and nightlife. We will hit Diamond Tooth Gerties for some gambling and then the Pit, the popular tavern to imbibe with the locals. Everyone up here refers to us simply as the musicians. We have been in the Yukon for 12 days now and are onto another show today south of Whitehorse. We played in Teslin last night at the first nations band centre and college. Our wonderful hosts Birgit and Doug are pioneer folks with a some home schooled, dynamo kids in a log cabin. Everyone we have stayed and played for is equally as gracious and fascinating. Yolande and Rich in Haines Junction have a big home with a view of the St Elias mountain range. And their two daughters are at 6 and 10 already showing signs of great musical talent. The youngest opened the show with a banjo song that brought the house down. Our show the next night at the Hardy house in Whitehorse started a similar way with the granddaughter doing a piano song. How cute is that? When all is said and done we will have driven all the major roads in the Yukon. Every house we stay at is as different as the people in them. Such is the glory of this tour. A delightful opportunity to connect with people and have a proper visit. This land is vast and breath taking. And we are enjoying what the locals call a very mild winter. Average temperatures being around 8 below celsius. Our 2nd last stop is up in Old Crow, the most northerly settlement in the territory. Up there it is colder for sure but it will justify us lugging around our big snow goose parkas. Our main man Steve Gedrose at Music Yukon has been a star what with helping us navigate the not so complex community and generally being a real mench. We base ourselves out of the office apartment and are able to use the interweb to keep the future approaching at a feasible rate. Went dogsledding today. What a rush that was. Almost lost it a few times but my team were good. So much more to write about but we gotta go play our 6th show in as many days.Yukon tour update

Greetings from the Yukon Territories where we are playing all over on our 3 week tour. We go from Watson Lake in the south east to Haines Junction in the southwest all the way up to Old Crow, the most northerly settlement in the Yukon. It is really beautiful up here and the people are swell. Cold though eh. But then again it was 28 below in Wakefield Quebec the other day for dragonfest so welcome to Canadadia. Jason insists on doing most of the driving so I am left to my own devices on the passenger side. That includes much rambling on and fidgeting. Also I am making a movie of our adventures on my little camera. The tour ends up here with a weekend in Dawson City where we are staying and playing at Bombay Peggys, the renovated brothel that I lived in back in 1985 when it was a condemned building on a swamp by the ferry to cross the Yukon river. That is where I started playing music for real. It is also where I stepped on a nail and was on crutches when my love of two years told me she was leaving me to go to Mexico and think about life. Even though I had it coming I wept like the broken man I was while riding on the crappy bike that I used to get around with my bum foot. I rode along side her bus as it pulled out of town and can still see her beautiful face in the window of the greyhound. Such saddness I had never known. Returning home that day I was sure I would suffocate as the air had become lead. Each breath went towards another moan and my heart begged for an end. I went in to work at the Midnight Sun Hotel that night but could not stop weeping so my boss told me to leave. I guess the customers were getting uncomfortable with their pathetic wretch of a waiter. Mercifully my kindly british friend Graham insisted that I come and stay with him and the lovely Jocelyn Mcdowell until I got my shit together and I will never forgot them for that. It is pretty tough to have a broken heart, no running water or electricity and a bum foot all at the same time, eh. But that was a long long time ago now...Happy New Year

And what a year it will be. Although it started with such sadness and strife that the earthquake in Haiti has brought to an already troubled place. Our hearts and efforts go out the people of that part of the island. Please donate what you can to one of the many charities that are helping out directly there. I am gathering my warm clothes up for my tour of the Yukon in February. We just had a big weekend of birthday shows with Jenny Whiteley to get ready. I am so looking forward to returning to Dawson City where I lived in 1984 and played my first real show. We opened for Doug & the Slugs at Diamond Tooth Gerties to a huge crowd. Hi there folks. We are just finishing up a spectacular run around the colourful eastern parts. Fall glory through and through from Newfoundland to Brooklyn NY and here today in Bearsville NY by Woodstock where our Americana homies Jack & Daria Grace hold up. Carolyn Mark, Tolan McNeil and Diona Davies and I sure had a blast in eastern Canada. The roads were mercifully clear of moose for our epic drive across and back across Nflnd. What a great bunch of people they are down east. We oughta all just go there for personality enhancement retreats. Really, I mean it. En route we played the pirates place in St John NB (real pirate) and Halifax at the fabulous Company House. Both of them now my favourite venues anywhere. The Company House is a great addition to the trapline for the travelling bard . Super great sound on stage which I sometimes just really want, and that was one of those nights. Rose Cousins had left cookies for us. What else do you need except for a place to stay? And they had that right upstairs of the club. Carolyn, Tolan & Diona played and sang so great every night and were sporty enough to join me for a good portion of my set so let us just say that everybody won. My new van, Buck Rogers, did us solid too. Geoff and Allison in St J Newfoundland did us super solid on the nesting front as we had 3 shows in 3 clubs and wanted to see as much of the area during the day as possible. Day trips to Quidi Vidi, Signal Hill, Cape Spear (most easterly point in North America), and a few very local pubs rounded out our full bodied, every night more people, (divided by) gourmet, home cooked meals, eastern experience. It is all there for us. LWEast to the sea!!

Hi pilgrims, the van is getting pimped out in Ruebebn deGroots driveway as I write this (never been much good with the tools). I just sent the Rueben record off to get mastered yesterday. A masterpiece if I do say so myself. Next Friday I meet up with Carolyn Mark, Tolan & Diona at Pop Montreal and after a nice Mint records afternoon show and we head to Quebec City for the night show. Greetings pilgrims. Working away booking bands at Casey Fishers new club The Mansion. The music takes place in the Living Room and we have had some great bands come through so far. Music every night. And I am finishing up the finer points on Rueben de Groots new cd that we started recording at the end of the year. He is making a big splash on the local scene with his great music, search him out. I laid off chasing too many festivals this summer in order to get the new club off the ground, finish a few projects and get started on a new cd of my own but there is still a mish mash of shows to be played. Looking forward to having Jack Grace and his band back up to Canada at the end of July and we are heading down to NYC and Woodstock area in August to reverse the process. It is hush hush diplomatic work generally. I am staring across the lake at Wolfe Island where a gazillion windmills are just coming online. Hmmm, quite an ordeal for the community over there and we in Kinkytown do not get to keep the power even. I guess it is better than a nuke plant or being Brian Mulroney right now. In music news, I saw my friends band Meatdraw the other night and have already started to cover one of his awesome songs. Heading west with renowned mandolin player Dan Whiteley and banjo and bassist Jason Mercer. Jason has been out on the road on and off for years with Ron Sexsmith and before that Ani Difranco but we originally met back in his Bourbon Tabernacle Choir days. He plays banjo on every LW and the Wrongs cd since 1998s Rogers Waltz and we have done a series of shows lately in New York city that lead to this collaboration. We will likely feature the banjo, guitar and mandolin in the early part of the show and then move his over to bass for some rocking as the night goes on. Just back from western Canada and a great tour with Po Girl. We sailed through Alberta and B.C. in fine fashion. Those folks are amazing performers and we shared the stage every night. The benefit for the emergency relief fund at the Sally Ann was a great success! We raised almost $3,000 for the cause and everyone seemed to have a fun time. Sorry to all who could not get tickets to the show. Next year we will endeavor to present the show at a larger venue. The show started off with the Hacapellas doing their barbershop wonder and then Rueben de Groot took it from there with his fine songs and warm voice (and killer band). There was more barbershop to follow Rueben then Krista Muir and her guitarist Shane entertained the crowd with her lovely songs. Jay Harris kicked some rocking butt featuring songs from his latest cd and set the stage for Music Maul to play there quirky but highly entertaining music. The did a whack version of City Sidewalks that could only be followed by Emily Fennell singing Please Come Home For Christmas by B.B. King. At that point our special guest Allison Russell of Po Girl knocked everyone out with a song by JT & the Clouds and then stayed on stage to join me for a few new tunes that also featured Sarah on drums, Sean Kelly on bass and Emily on piano. Ms Harmer came around from the drums and started her set with an Algonquin christmas song and then brought Sean, Fuzzy Fraser and myself up to rip through some of her excellent new songs. But not before she wrangled J. Euringer and Chris Brown up to join her for that old Weeping Tile chesnut, Room with the Sir John A View. With the place at this point swooning away, Sean Kelly took it over the top with Captain Footbags from Slaves of Spanky and a troupe of stars to wow the room with the Run DMC song Christmas in Hollis. His Mister Rogers sweater made it even more dark. By then the only thing left to do was get everyone we could on stage to end the night with Feed the World or whatever that is titled. Ahh, just back from a fine 4 day trip in Algonquin park with a film crew and recording dudes from my Hamilton posse. We canoed into the southern part of the park and set up a mobile studio to record a bunch of my songs that the crew had picked to do. The idea is for a T.V. pilot about Canadian nature and music all rolled into one. Gorgeous time of year to be up there and we got some fine footage and music recorded. We'll see how it turns out.
Back in the groove with playing here and there around the province. Casey Fisher opened his new club the Living Room in Kingston this month and we hit the stage there on the 26th with Blue Lake Stars and the Gertrudes. Mucho fun. Lot's of gigs listed in the tour dates section if you are nearby on the right day. It starts out with Krista LL Muir and then we hook up with Shuyler Jansen for some fun shows. Cam Giroux is joining us back on the drums for these shows and I can't wait to play with him of course. And I'm especially excited about returning to the Albion Hotel in Guelph to play as we rocked that house through the '90's with Weeping Tile, not to mention that my grandpa used to have a beer there back in the 1920's !!
We recorded a different version of my song "Northern" for a compilation Waterkeepers cd being produced by Chris Brown. Sarah Harmer, Chris & I layed it down on Wolfe Island at Browns' new studio t'other day. Pretty sweet sounding and only going to be sweeter with some drums by Anton Fier and and some double bass by Tony Scherr. On the way to the No Dog Jolification outside of Perth Ontario this weekend. A freaky donations only festival run by my brother Geordie and his pals. We'll be doing a mini Hootenanny with some of the folks who played Wolfe Isle with us. Then it's down to the South Shore Festival in Milford on Prince Edward County on Sunday. Summer is winding down and the fall is coming into focus. Big opening show at Kingstons' new venue The Living Room. We'll be there on the 19th with friends from B.C., "E.S.L.". The plans to tour with Krista LL Muir and after that with Shuyler Jansen are both coming togehter nicely. But first we hit NYC in early september to rock it as the Wrongs.
Wolfe Island Hootenanny!! was a blast on Augut 8th at 8:30. Featuring Carolyn Mark, Jenny & Dan Whiteley, Joey & Luther Wright, The Abrams Brothers, Mitch Anderson (singing Stompin' Tom Conners), Chris Brown, Tony Scherr, Anton Fier, The Hank & Lily Show, Greg Stewart, JT Taylor, and other stars of the Canadian roots collective. Alan Neal of the CBC was there recording the event for broadcast on Bandwidth and/or Canada Live sometime this fall. I'm sure out of the 3 & 1/2 hours of the show he got some fine collaborative stuff for his shows. Thanks Alan & the CBC!!

The cd releasing has gone well. (reviews: http://www.lutherwright.com/reviews.php ) We had a ripping good home town show at the Grad Club with the new super group of 7. Newest feature is cellist Greg Stewart from San Fran who we scooped up in time for rehearsing and such. The songs translated wonderfully live and we carried on up to Montreal for a show with Ladies of the Canyon at Le Divan Orange. We slimmed down to a 4 piece to play our friends bar in Wakefield on the Saturday but the intensity was there and it got a little more old school country as I couldn't help myself what with the history around that place. Dan and I mixed it up at the Amnesty International Benefit the next day at the National Archive Theatre as part of the Ottawa Opry hosted by Pat Moore and her awesome band, Vinyl Frontier. Many smiles and not a few back slaps later has us off to New York City this weekend where we join up with Megan Palmer, Ben Rubin and Tony Scherr for 3 shows of hard-hitting music and much revelry. An official release of said cd is also the 50th aniversary of the inaugural flight of the Avro Arrow . "Man of Your Dreams" is coming out on our own Snakeye Muzak and is being distributed by Outside Music is also a double party in that they are re-releasing Rebuild the Wall, available again in stores. CD release show's are in the booking phase, as is the spring & summer's fun.

Well they say the storm's blowing down from Lake Huron but I hope to get wayyyy past Buffalo before tomorrow's lunchtime. Columbus awaits for two nights of fun with Megan Palmer and those Ohio players of hers. My wing man had to pull out at the last minute so I'm hopping up on go-go juice and driving the 9 hours alone. It'll be nice to get back to Columbus and also to beautiful Thomas, West Virginia where we play Sunday. I was there last fall with the Shiftless Rounders and enjoyed the area and the people immensely. Megan and I decided to make a few weekends out of it and to get the gang back together in some form or another so at the end of the month we'll be in NYC for some serious picking. I think I'm just about good enough to keep up with the likes of the gang now.

Wolfe Island festival went super good. The friday night Hootenanny Revue took place on the front steps of the Town Hall right near the ferry docks and some 300 happy folks showed up to see us do our thing. We were flying without Ms Carolyn Mark for the first time and at first I felt empty and alone but with Krista Lederhosen Lucil Muir as Ms. Marks stand-in we managed to find our groove. Ms Jenny Whiteley held her own and then some being 8.5 months pregnant and ready to rock. The line-up also included brother/husband Joey Wright, Jim Bryson, Chris Brown (we wheeled out his hammnd organ for the event!), Sam Allison on double bass, Cam Giroux on drums and our guest Julie Fader. I am waiting for pictures to put up in ye ole photo gallery but I did get a couple of shots of Weeping Tile performing on the Saturday of the festival (thanks to Terry Prendergast, long time buddy and fan). The Saturday event was a ripper too. Spiral Beach made my day and of course Wolfe Parade did a solid show, featuring alot of new material. Apostle of Hustle killed it good right after Weeping Tile played our reunion set (of sorts). All in all a wild success for all and Ms Virginia Clark and Madam Sarah Mcdermott, promoters of the event, did us solid once again. xoElphin Roots Festival Review + Here comes Wolfie

Much fun to be had this time of year for the music lover. We've been busy bouncing around the area playing in various formations. Last week we teamed up and played a benefit to help sustain the native folks who are camping out on their land in the Lanark County area that has been chosen as a possible site for a Uranium mine. Bad idea. Lot's of people came out to the Church hall in Sharbot Lake to hear music, native drumming and a few words about the situation. Sarah Harmer, Chris Brown, Jenny Whiteley, Joey Wright & I all played to a packed house and some $7,000 was raised.
Tonight LW & the Wrongs kick it up on beautiful Prince Edward County at the Mt Tabor Playhouse as the last of a series of shows presented by Emily Fennell and Spin the Bottle. 10,000 people flock to the county in the summer to enjoy one of Ontario's best kept secrets. Probably not alot of risk of me letting the cat out of the bag on this site as I'm not sure anyone will read this missive anyhoo.
Wolfe Island Festival approaches and with it the public, for profit reunion of Weeping Tile. We've been working madly on bringing the beast back to life and so far the electrical storms necessary to revive the dead are consistent enough that we may have a walking, talking, singing monster ready to eat your heads come August 11th at 7pm. It's getting hot and that means our species gravitates towards fields and farmland to enjoy music under the open skies. Our participation in these pagan affairs is limited this year after a good decade run of summer festivals but we are still hitting the stage at a few. This weekend ahead (June 15-17) finds a reunion of sorts in the Wrongs camp with Cam Giroux & Burke Carroll joining in on drums and pedal steel respectively. On our way to the Minesing Wetlands festival on Saturday we are stopping by Toronto to play at the newest of hotspots, the Dakota Tavern for an all-nite Wrongs-o-rama Friday. Dan Whiteley and JT round out the mix with word out that Jay Euringer (of Sarah Harmer's acoustic band & part-time Wrong) and perhaps the legendary Sean Kelly (Wrongs/Weeping Tile) may join in the fun or at least the drinking. Whoa. Manhatten Friday freakshow

yeah well it was all calm and collected like when I wrote the missive below. Settled in at chez Ben & Jess in B-town while the kids ran free around Times Square, the whole evening looked pretty standard. Even with the cross Brooklyn drive to Tony's to fetch him (fresh from mixing his new album all day) and then the scoot over to the west village to pick up our cds at Kate Fenner's before racing to the Rodeo Bar. And being 10:30 on a Friday it was full of people full of booze, mildly annoying and rambling around while we loaded in the goods and set up. Slightly surreal but only getting better, or nokay, by the time we finished our first of two sets. Four huge guys who had been power-drinking mid room at a table exploded into a fight the second after we stopped playing. Tables, drinks,candles, men and women were suddenly flying at the stage as these mammoth louts pounded the shit out of each other. We all stood on stage hugging our instruments until the violence abated. Dan Curtis somehow was credited for breaking it up. Which we don't think happened but why mess with the truth when the blood isn't even dry on the floor. The second set seemed tame in comparison save for the public drunkeness of certain characters. .. uh, I gotta go. Oh yeah, the staff at the Rodeo Bar are some of the nicest people we get to see on the road. We love them. Two shows tonight in Brooklyn. 8pm at 68 Jay street in Dumbo then a ripper at 12 bells up the road at Hanks saloon. Heard some of Tony Scheer's new music and was moved in all the right ways. What seemed like a smooth ride into the city took a turn for the worse as we hit the George Washington Bridge after an ever so smooth cruise down the Palisades Parkway (which is the way to go, pilgrim, if yer coming down this way from up there). Lock and blocked traffic all the way thru the tri-boro into the Gowanus canal area of Brooklyn where Tony Scheer lives. We were rattled by then but nonetheless happy to see Tony who was playing in the Wrongs for our 4 show visit as well as lending us a pile o' gear to play with. Tony is the smooth operating, songwriting band-leading-sidemaning broham who does his thing with Bill Frisell, Sex Mob, Willie Nelson, Chris Brown & Kate Fenner and now LW &the W's. All the biggies. And grooving out the smooth we have a veteran wrong, Dr. Benny Cha Cha Rubin sitting in for JT on the double bass as we blast through 40 or so songs tonight at the Rodeo Bar in Manhatten. It's Friday night so it looks like to be a zoo replete with Margaritas in red plastic cups and alot of white girls getting their drink on. Not to be out done we brought our own white girl in the form of Emily Fennell. She's a singing, playing mama from the Kingston area who is just finishing a roots album with me and the most of the Wrongs. Stay tuned for that gem, should be out in month or two. She takes the stage for some songs while out with the Wrongs. It breaks up the man-meld music a bit and gives me a chance to guzzle some of those weak yankee beers. And it ain't over after tonight neither as we move the show back over to Brooklyn again for a ripping set at Hanks Saloon down on 3rd and Atlantic. Roadhouses in the city seems to be our calling these days. That and gigs like "Hay Days" in Tamworth where farmers assemble giant rolled hay bales into metaphorical sculpture that tweaks the mind on a summers day. And we play the accompanying music. Back in the valentino groove here on the north shore of
Lily Fawn threw, "the best birthday party gig for me ever", that lasted three days and broke a land speed record for fun. I recall being blindfolded and swinging wildly at a paper donkey piñata. There was a big bang and I thought I'd clobbered a civilian but when the candy flew like shrapnel across the bar I knew we'd won again. And the night went on. An invigorated and focused Tolan McNeil was on board from the get-go, playing like a daemon and wholly entertaining us all backstage where the secret really, excellent stuff happens that these pages will never reveal. NEVER!!!.
ahem, so the Carolinians held their own in the whiskey sippin' department and they graciously/saucily presented me with a grab bag of gifts including: wow! a new pair of nipple clamps (just when I'd left mine by the hot tub at the ski hill).
On the other side of the Malahat at some little ferry terminal, Diona crawls in and finds a spot to perch between me and CM who is at the wheel of our over-stuffed, borrowed Volvo named Griselda as we peel it up island to the Waverly Tavern in Cumberland B.C. It's without saying another banner show, much hugging, hootchin' and hilarity. After rocking it out on bass to "America" with Hank & Lily I remember eating cake with the locals and saying, "to play in Hank & Lilys band is to live free of doubt yet full of pain!!"

Howdy! Well the new year looks to be bringing a trip west to do some solio shows with Hank & Lily, Carolyn Mark and the gang and then as the winter turns to spring we are putting together some concert series stuff around Kingston. My solo project (that is actually not really me and a guitar but alot of cross-over pop stuff) should be done in the first month or two of '07 as my buddy Marty Kinack is dialing in the mixes as we speak. The Hootenanny Revue is up and at'em tentatively starting in Montreal on March 29th. This time Jim Bryson will be playing the part of Oh Susanna and Shuyler Jansen. More dates to come on that soon.

Greetings from lovely Thomas West Virginia where I played last night with the Shiftless Rounders at the awesome Purple Fiddle Cafe. The folks here are wonderful (they have a karma soup, free for the hungry) and present music almost every night of the week. The tour through Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia was full of adventure and many generous hosts that fed us fine and gave us warm, comfy places to sleep. As the tour progressed we have been melding our show into a smooth blend of our diverging styles. Heart and the Land of Milk & Honey are there in their full version form and I've put up a remix of Goodbye Blue Sky that our friend Ben Rubin did. Very house, very good. But really the gem of the 4 is Elvis by The Muugworts, the band my brother George and I had back in the mid 90's when we were really angry at the future. It tells of a trip I took to Graceland back when an aunt of the king still lived at the house. We were on the last tour of the day and she stumbled out of a hidden door beside me with a lit smoke and said SHIT and marched away. The tour guide explained that she gets a bit uptight by the end of the day after a houseful of tourists snooping about. Well I guess so. Have a look and listen.

Yep, and that's your chance to jump ship. But if you are staying around earth then go out and see live music as there is a code in the beat that you can decipher and get your confirmation number for your flight to paradise. The Hootenanny Revue summer-lovin' tour was a festival size success! Everyone has scattered east and west to do their thang until next time which is set for middle of October out in Gords country (Alberta that is) and B.C., the land of magic, mushrooms, maryjane and mayonaise. Before that ship sails I'll be doing some diplomatic work down in the former colonies with my bearded buddies the Shiftless Rounders. As the tour dates section of ye ole website will attest, we are staying this side of the Mississippi but foraying as far south as our rental car agreement will allow. Not getting quite into ole Miss though, and it pains me not to play the Thirsty Hippo in Hattiesburg where LW & the Wrongs found sheer happiness in and amongst the many music lovers tucked away in the south eastern corner of that hot and history filled state.

After the excitement of playing the Steve Goodman tribute in NYC I went uptown with friends to the Church of St Ignatius Loyola for Father Dan Berrigans 85th birthday celbration. It featured short speeches, poetry and music from Pete Seeger, Kurt Vonnegut, Amy Goodman and many more friends and comrades of the Berrigan brothers. Dan and his late brother Phillip have been active for years in promoting peace and a better world and their roots in the catholic church and progressive approach have inspired many.
Below is an excerpt from Democracy Now!
"Philip and his younger brother poet Father Dan Berrigan, were leaders of the antiwar movement in the United States in the 1960s. Both were Catholic priests who fought for social justice. They staged their protests against military institutions and weapons manufacturers.
Dan and Philip Berrigan first rose to prominence within the anti-war movement when they burned draft files in a Catonsville, Maryland, parking lot in 1968 to protest the Vietnam War. The action led to harsh prison terms for the two brothers and seven others. But it also propelled the Berrigans into the national spotlight and sparked a nationwide series of draft card burnings.In 1980, they co-founded the Plowshares Movement, begun in 1980, when they and others entered a GE plant in Pennsylvania and hammered on nuclear warheads."
The event was also a benefit for The Saint Patrick's Four Activists and The Campaign to Shut Down Guantánamo. The latter is very visible in the news these days but the story of the St. Patrick Four is also very potent as the action follows in the footsteps of the Berrigan brothers in their unwavering dedication to push the peace package in bold ways that draw the worlds attention to the horrors of war.
The St. Patrick's Four (Catholic peace activists, Peter DeMott, Clare Grady and Teresa Grady and Daniel Burns) carried out their action in March 2003, when they entered a recruiting center in suburban Ithaca, poured their own blood on the walls, in the foyer and on a US flag and then refused to leave.

My Old Man cd release in the U.S. of A.

Just winding down from the release event for "My Old Man" in NYC this past week. As mentioned below it is a tribute cd to Steve Goodman, the songwriter and performer best known for penning "The City of New Orleans" (which is the song we do on the cd). I'll put them up for sale on the site soon and you will buy one.
Here's part of the press release for the show that featured an all-star band backing the singers. It included Tony Scherr on bass, Anton Fier on drums, Teddy Kumpel on guitar and Chris Brown on hammond organ .
"October 7, 2004, shortly after the 20th anniversary of my father’s death. Several of us set off to New Jersey for a musical tribute to my father and benefit for a leukemia foundation. An evening of folk music. Folk music used to make me cringe. My old man died when I was seven. I rebelled in my musical childhood, having been brought up around an array of singer-songwriters, acoustic guitars and mandolins, discovered pop, hip-hop and metal. I formed a rock band and wrote my own songs. Through my dear Canadian friends Chris Brown and Kate Fenner, I realized all these years I had been missing out on the impact of a well written song. A well-written song can hit close to home – real close to home. I began digging in the boxes in our basement, reading clippings and listening to Dad’s music on CD, a format that didn’t exist while he was alive, realizing that not only was my dad an incredible song-writer but an American songwriting hero.
With the help of friends and talented peers I embraced my Dad’s music and legacy, and wanted to introduce it to my generation. I’ve gathered together the best young talent I knew or Chris knew, artists like Ana Egge, Luther Wright & The Wrongs, Crescent & Frost, Tony Scherr,
Chris Brown & Kate Fenner, Teddy Kumpel, Matt Keating & Emily Spray, and Anna Hovhannessian. These musicians have a kinship, shared songs, play together and look out for one another and, for the most part, invited me into their world so we could all share the life that remains in songs my Dad wrote decades ago. Some picked the songs they wanted to sing, and I handpicked a few I envisioned for them. Like my Dad, his friends and fellow musicians, John Prine, Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, and Jimmy Buffett when they were our age. The wheel makes a new circle.

Deep into the wily month of May and the events are approaching as the calender ticks.
Despite sound negtoiations by our crackerjack booking team we found out that the Mariposa festival will be declining our Hootenanny Revue services this year. I t came as a surprise to all but agent Jenny quickly sorted us out a show at Harbourfront on the 15th of July and we've decided to host a festival in Elphin, Ontario on the weekend of July 8th. Details to follow about that. Rumours of a Hoot show in Wakefield, Quebec at the legendary Blacksheep Inn in early August also abound. Mandolin/rocket surgeon Dan Whiteley and I have been gigging around as a duo to great response and ' the Wrongs are playing a few local festivals in the next month too. The big news is that the cd "My Old Man", a tribute to Steve Goodman, is ready for release and all the artists that contributed to the cd are joining forces for a show at the Living Room in New York City on June 7th.
We contributed a version of City Of New Orleans for the cd as well as an instrumental number entitled, "Jesses Jig". The spike in the punch of the summer is all about the Hootenanny Revue in it's various forms, culminating with full attendance performances at the sold out, super-duper good time Hillside Festival in Guelph the last weekend of July and the equally awesome, yet slightly more for the whole family, Blue Skies festival the first week of August. We are ending the Hoot summer at the Wolfe Island festival on friday the 11th as part of this increasingly popular and always wonderful event presented once again by Sarah & Virg, two of Kingstons finest event organizers. And prior to all of that LW & the W's and Butterfingers! will be part of the first Skeleton Park Music Festival in Kingston on June 24th. It is a wonderful, community organized event that features loads of Kingston based bands and musicians.

We are gearing up for the festival circut this summer where the Hootenanny Revue will be performing Mariposa (Toronto), Hillside (Guelph), Blue Skies, Wolfe Island (Kingston Area), as well as Perths Stewart Park Festival, a little one of our own in Elphin and a few special shows in between. The 'Wrongs and Butterfingers! are appearing at the 1st annual Skelton Park festival in Kingston on June 24th. It's right in the city and looks to be a great local affair.

Going great guns out here in loyalist land with recording schemes coming into focus and touring plans multiplying like some freak-assed triginometry style-ee rabbit show. March is me heading west to hone my live performance skills with Ms. Carolyn and then The Shiftless Rounders as we careen through the mountains of B.C. and the flatlands of Alberty plunking out the pervasive party-folk music. Tour dates are listed in said section. And please check out: www.shiftlessroundrers.com for a taste of this New England duo that I was fortunate enough to meet whilst raging the roads with Po' Girl a year or so back.
Following those shows we all convene up in the highlands of Lanrk County to prepare the fabulous Hootenanny Revue thatwill be hitting the road in Ontario and Quebec for three big weeks starting March 30th. The dates and venues are soon to be listed so keep your datebook and a pen handy, it really is a show that is not to be missed.

It may be that the best thing people can do is to nuture their artistic urges. Each of us has a special, unique view of things and how we each choose to interpret and communicate those views is often one of the more fascinating elements of humanity for me. The artistic expression of total strangers carries no baggage beyond the piece presented. One can assume things about the creator of a painting or a song but really, who's to know if they ain't talkin'? Who really needs to know? It's just out there to take however we choose.

Moving right along with our newly elected government. Whew! Hey it looks like the Hootenanny Revue Tour 2006 is almost set to go. We are starting on the 30th of March in Kingston and playing our way through until the 15th of April. We'll have all the venues and dates up in a few weeks but I can tell you this, the line up has expanded! All in one night you can see: Carolyn Mark, Oh Susanna, Jenny Whiteley, Shuyler Jansen, Hank & Lily, Luther Wright all playing together and alone with our band of Dan Whiteley, Tolan McNeil, Diona Davies, and Cam Giroux. We have a theme song, dance moves, slick change overs and plenty of humourous asides. www.hootenanny.ca will also be packing some info as the day gets closer. Prior to that I'll be working away on the Luther cd and also will be playing a western pack of shows with my American amigos, the Shiftless Rounders in March that goes through B.C. and Alberta. Summer is shaping up too as the Hootenanny Revue Tour is being swept into some of the finer folk festivals out there. More news on that later.Holiday in Canadadia

Seasons greets all! Our annual fundraiser for the Salvation Army was last night at the Grad Club in Kingston and if I remember correctly it was a grand success. Mr Chris Brown opened the night with a few charming christmas numbers and Dan Whiteley joined him to ease the crowd into mood for a excellent night of music. LW & the Wrongs careened through a set of new songs before giving up the stage to Jacksy and there three piece rock-pop grooves. Then benefit alumni Sarah Harmer belted out a heartfelt version of John Prines seasonal, prison town hit, "Christmas in Prison" with Chris on piano. I seem to recall the dulcet sounds and lyrical lilt of "Winter Wonderland" before she launched into "The Ring" from her new cd. The crowd was loving it and it all went through the roof with Buck Jones blasting through an awesome set of their barrelhouse country originals (topped off with a smoking rendition of Roger Millers, "My Uncle Used to Love Me But She Died"). After that glory Chris Brown took the guitar in hand and wowed 'em with a few of his potent, lovely killer songs while Slaves of Spanky prepared for the final onslaught. Them boys outta Tamworth and their band of genius' funked the shit outta that ole building and the dance party kicked in hard. I found a copy of their new cd in my coat this morning courtesy of Captain Footbags and Chuck Badminton. You have to see S.O.S. they are amazing.
Well I'll just go round up the gang and get our stuff from the bar before it gets locked in until next year, not that I'm playing any gigs until Heffley Creek, B.C. on jan 6th and 7th. That's where it's going down next with Carolyn Mark, Tolan and Diona and who else, who knows?

On her latest cd "I'm a Mountain", ms. Sarah Harmer has included a cover "Luther's Got the Blues" in with her fine compositions. She assembled a band of old and new friends to play roots music on her "I Love the Escarpment" tour back in the spring and the magic in the music lead them into the studio for a few days to record this gem of an album. Go out and buy one for yourself and one for a Christmas present!

Well the fall Hootenanny tour is booked and the ducks are lining up to be blown to pieces. "What is this Hootenanny", you say? Well Ms Carolyn has summed it up for us all. THE HISTORY: Born out of a bottle and necessity during the summer of the Commonwealth Games, The Hootenanny began as a weekly open stage in Victoria hostessed by Miss Carolyn Mark. The concept was stolen from a man named Mike McDonald (lead singer of Jr. Gone Wild) who hosted his weekly Rosebowl Jam every Sunday night at a pizza place in Edmonton. For ten years it stayed as it was, save for a venue change when the old place got new owners, expanding and shrinking with the seasons and adjusting to accommodate the ebb and flow of migrant musicians, student exam schedules, and televised sports events. Then one day long time pal Luther Wright (The Mayor of Kingston and lead singer of Luther Wright and The Wrongs) emerged from behind his trademark fog of green time travelling mist after a particularly heady session of springtime scheming with the notion that The Hootenanny should be put on that summer in Kingston at a sumptuous Irish bar. He sewed the curtains, alerted the press and assembled the cast which included Sarah Harmer, Oh! Susanna, Jenny Whiteley, NQ Arbuckle, Ford Pier, and himself. Miss Carolyn hostessed and played with her band. The event sold out and was magical. Many extended curtain calls and air kisses were shared by the cast after the We Are The World style finale and the night ended with many post-show toasts and pats on the back around the campfire after everything was packed up. The next year Luther called with an even grander idea. He would charter a boat and The Hootenanny would be performed at sea! A three hour cruise on The Island Princess around Kingston Harbour. Miss Harmer fronted the money and Luther patched the sails, organized the sound equipment, and re-assembled the original cast. Another sold-out success with the boat riding low in the water and some teary eyed fans left behind on the dock. Jenny Whiteley booked the cute hall just up the road from her place in Mayberly so the act could be broken in the night before and it was beautiful and there was much collaboration and it all felt like it was a hundred years ago. This spring, the original cast reformed for a touring-in-earnest version with Carolyn, Luther, Jenny and Oh! Susanna (not coming this time- just had a baby) performing eleven shows around Ontario and Quebec. Local acts rounded out the bill and were signed up at the beginning of each night on the red glitter chalk board unphased by the sound of invisible vampire handcuffs clicking around their willing wrists with everyone playing two sets of three songs each in front of the quilted Hootenanny banner and riding off into the sunset together grinning and patting their wallets and looking forward to the next time. Which brings us to the present and the all new plan: THE WESTERN HOOTENANNY REVUE! I've been so caught up in world events as of late that I have to share this little tidbit I read today on truthout.org. Seems religious leaders are partying like is 1399! Hey, I was raised Scottish Presbytarian and I thought we were hard-assed but this a whole other league! Robertson Called for the Assassination of Venezuela's President Media Matters for America Monday 22 August 2005 Pat Robertson, host of Christian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club and founder of the Christian Coalition of America, called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. From the August 22 broadcast of The 700 Club: "Robertson: There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent. You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war. And I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... This is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen. We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly. We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. Music and art are always a very good start. And be sure vote in every election you can: municipal, regional and federal. Join a political party and participate in the dialogue. For a little more insight to our mighty friends in the U.S. of A. read "The Peoples History of the United States" by Howard Zinn. And "The Autobiography Of Malcom X", by Alex Haley, if you haven't already. greetings pilgrims! I'm working on what looks to be a new cd. Out in the sticks by myself with a pile of junky, yet precious instruments that we've had kicking around for years including: a drum machine Grant lent me, a bass that was given to the Mugworts by our friend Byron before he married a movie star and moved to L.A., the keyboard Weeping Tile used for one song way back when, and my trusty $300 imitation Martin guitar donated by brother Gord Tough when he decided I needed a real country guit-fiddle if I was going to play hurtin' muic. Well I sure like the drum machine! Looks like this ain't gonna be no country record pops. he he he. Heading west to be with those mysterious people for a bit. They always welcome me even though I don't understand anything they do or say. Carolyn is again leading me around the province at least for a week before I go un-supervised into the Koots. Hopefully Phil Wisor form the Shiftless Rounders is making good on his threat to join me for a boys road trip into the mountains. Just back from New York City after an 8 day sojourn that saw a bit of a 'Wrongs reunion between Jason Mercer, Megan Palmer and I to play a show and also to contribute two songs to the Steve Goodman tribute cd. It is being produced by his daughter Rosanna who chose to use bands that she felt were as good as the greats but not as well known (yet). Steve Goodman is known as a songwriters songwriter and wrote many gems including, "The City of New Orleans", (which was one of the tunes we were chosen to do). He was a great friend of John Prine who I always point to as my biggest influence as a songwriter. Steve battled leukemia for years before he passed away in 1984 after blessing the world with his music and charm. It's been so enriching to be part of the project and learn about this man and his music. Rosanna is very generous with her encouragement and our mutual friend Chris Brown has been leading the charge with captain Lurch at the Brooklyn studio they call home. So far I've just heard Crescent & Frosts killer version of, "If She Were You", and Kate Fenner and her bands beautiful rendition of, "I Just Keep Falling In Love". We also are doing a version of "Jesse's Jig", a fun instrumental that we blasted off around the kitchen table at Chris's. Dan Marcus from Crescent & Frost lent a hand on the guitar for that one. The whole project promises to be an amazing listen, featuring Steves excellent songs interpreted by a new generation of songwriters with active, creative, musical careers of there own. Howdy! As you can see by the show listings on the right we have a Hootenanny Tour planned for Ontario. Something that started as a one-off in Kingston has blossomed into a full on tour concept. I found this from a tour we did with Jim Bryson and the Occassionls, down east in 2001. On to St. John, N.B. October 24 As we drive over the Confederation Bridge that connects P.E.I. to the mainland ( the -fill in number here- longest bridge in the world ), it's hard to believe that in two weeks waves will be washing over it during a wild, fall storm that is brewing up and getting set to pound the east coast. This is a big bridge that rises high above the Northumberland Straight, no small feat for a storm to shut this engineering marvel down. By the time this calamity decends we'll be safely tucked away in the belly of the flat lands playing C & W for people who actually live in the country, out west. Our show in St. John is being put on by some fellows from the university radio station at a bar/restaurant in the hilly, downtown area of this port city. We played here in Weeping Tile a few times back a piece but not at this roadhouse. At first there seems to be the booker/bar staff dichotomy that slows down the soundcheck drill to a veritable standstill. Also the P.A. rental guy has set up the system (sort of) and is leaving right away but admits that it doesn't seem to be working and tells our vastly experienced and wonderful soundman that he can't put the kick drum in the mix. (I think, "that's okay, Cam only uses it every half of a second for the whole show who's gonna miss it anyways?). Sean goes immediately into interference mode and distracts our well-meaning promoters long enough so that Grant can rebuild the system properly and we can put on a show. Once again the show is a blast and the people make us and Jim Bryson feel welcome. The live music scene is on the ropes coast to coast, you know? These small victories spur us on. We spend time usually every morning exhchanging stories and views from the previous nights performance. There's a certain amount of pride in traversing the second largest country in the world, putting your all into a show regardless of the size of the crowd or the colour of the money (?). I figure as long as one person is getting it out there and I can sort of see or sense them, I'm good to go. It helps having your four best friends on stage with you and another at the soundboard. We play so much live that we don't really get to jam with all our gear like this so there's a certain joy that compensates for any lack of audience enthusiasm. Enthusiasm for music however, does not present a problem down east, eh? And that night just turns into a dance party...January 31st, 2005

Bon, in what appears to be a break from the past, I'm off solo to B.C. in a few weeks to meet up with Carolyn Mark and our fiddling funtastico amiga, Diona Davies. We are storming around the province to play for the people and what we are going to play remains to be seen but stand by for talented guests and glory. We've been booking the shows without actually saying what was going to happen at them! Kind of a leap of faith that leaves everyone in for it. I'm sure it'll be un spectack. There is talk, (voices in the dark that is) of recording the next el dubya installment in Feb. I'm throwing myself into the new year and a new record with heady ambition and enough new material that I figure that I'll land on my feet somewhere unfamiliar. That being the goal of course. It's the "familiar" that I've become increasingly awkward with. So many others are doing such a good job at things that are already established that I figure dinna need to use whatever chutzpah I can muster to contribute to the pile. Just was whopping it up at a fine benefit show at the Phoenix in Toronto last night that featured performances by many Canadian stars including: Jim Cuddy, Kathleen Edwards, Danny Michel, Sam Roberts (with Kaos!), Cathy Jones, Tom Wilson, and of course Sarah Harmer who invited me and her two singing-swinging sisters Barb and Mary to join her for a rousingly beautiful version of that John Prine seasonal chesnut, "Christmas in Prison". And as the holiday season approaches we are also gearing up for a couple of Butterfingers! shows including a cd release show on the 29th of December (listed over on the right under Tour Dates) and a New Years gig outside city hall in Kingston. Summer is winding down but we're winding up to hit the road with our Chicago based buddies, JT & the Clouds. As our calender of tour dates shows, we are cruising the midwest for four days putting on a double headed show that will satisfy your every musical need. On board the 'Wrongs van is Casey Fisher on drums, Dan Whiteley on mandolin, Miranda Mulholland on fiddle, James Taylor on bass and lw on the other stuff. This run leads us all the way back down east where we play Sydney and then head off to the most excellent Evolve festival in Antigonish, Nova Scotia where Chris & Kate and the Rheostatics are also on the bill. We'll be picking up Cowboy Dan Curits for that trip 'cause it leads us back to the Carolyn Mark hosted Hootenany in Maberly, Ontario and Kingston (on the Island Queen!), august 30th & 31st. Home at last where it all ends and begins again. We leaped frogged across the continent in three weekends, playing: Reno (Nevada), Quebec City, and Sydney (Nova Scotia). Yes and we drove the whole bleeding way, sometimes two vehicles in rolling tandem. Linking the coasts was a fitting way to finish the tour and now we nest back in Frontenac County until festival season begins in earnest. The new Butterfingers! will be ready for the begining of July and the kids shows that wait around the corner. New material is bubbling into the set of the 'wrongs as well. We are on the west coast of our tour now and guitar gunner, Dan Curtis has flown in to fill the void left by the talented and charming (and suddenly a.w.o.l.) Dan Whiteley and Miranda Mulholland. They did us proud all the way across Canadadia, pushing the music in a whole new direction. We hit the floor running and recorded a little epee in Winnipeg which we made 25 copies of (with individual artwork no less) and sold them up at our shows in Saskatoon and Edmonton. 5 new tunes came to life with the help of the tasty new musical ingredients, (Dan, Miranda and Casey that is) and we also covered, "While you Sleep", a fine song by Chris Brown and Kate Fenner from their cd "Geronimo. Onto California today with a brand new brake job (ouch! thats-gotta-hurt). Rockin' on home next week for the Flower Festival in Quebec City and then a jaunt down east. It's my sister Jeans birthday everybody! Happy Birthday Jean-yes!! As the Canadian winter lingers on to it's last gasp we are hunkered down in Kingston, playing a few local shows and preparing for the spring and summer. Dan Whiteley (of "Heartbreak Hill" fame) is joining the ranks of 'the Wrongs for our western tour of North America that starts April 25th. He is taking over the reigns of glory for brother Dan Curits for a bit and it may well be the most bluegrassy tour of our lives to date! Casey Fisher of Kingston has replaced uncle Mauro on the drums and brings a tasteful style to our sound that gives the songs a new flavour. It also alows me to introduce some new songs into the mix since he doesn't know what's old or new anyway! And just to really confuse the long-time fans, we're doing a five day tour to the mid-west in April that brings the founding member/drummer Cam Giroux back into the fold and our new fiddler star, Miranda Mullholland (who will also be joing us for our N. American western tour starting at the end of April). We haven't even broken up and we're doing reunion tours! That's the depth of the passion (not like the movie though...). It looks like the future for 'the Wrongs is one of rotating gunners filling out the line-up, but don't you worry, it's only going to make for mucho musical merryment and diversity. Well some wing-nut made a dramatic point of handing me the following note at a show back in those heady days when Y2k was still a hot topic around the ole watercooler. "Dear Band! First off this coming from a die-hard "Floyd" fan... You have (un)successfully killed the interest in the slew of cover-bands by "country-izing" such classic tunes! If you ever get signed, which I think Niegh 'know', will never happen I hope you fall flat and broke" and become a K-Mart Re-issue. -In further...you royally suck...and I wish you hatred, depravity and bad wishes!! Now I always thought that if someone actually knows the words to my songs well enough to sing along at shows that maybe I've arrived as a songwriter. Alright! We're down in North Carolina for a few shows and some fresh southern air and moderate warmth. Happy New Years! We brought in the new year with a modest show in our hometown pub and are presently juggling the fiscal dynamite in an attempt to rip up the roads touring in 2004. Burke Carroll is going to be out with us more these days and he spreads himself around the lap steel as well as the pedal steel guitar. Cousin Joey Wright has also stepped into the breech periodically to take over Cowboy Dans' spot so that Dan can enjoy time at home. Despite a blizzard raging outside, a few determined souls made it to the show at Mongo's Inner Mongolia Lounge and were treated to an incredible display of talent from Luther and his band. Whew! (again), home after two months of touring and just in time for the fall colours. It's like living in a postcard around these southern Ontario parts. Time to change over our wardrobes for the pending Canadian winter. We're home and playing some slightly more regional shows and also putting alot of thought towards planning our touring for the new year. Before we go forward too far we have to look back and review. Now I'm sure that this review of our first Butterfingers cd is worthy of some time on our webpage. Everyone knows a kid at sometime, eh? The second Butterfingers cd (The Songs We Sing) is nearing completion so get on board early with this movement and help us tweak the ears of families everywhere! Humm/Ottawa July/03 BUTTERFINGERS THE PEOPLE WE KNOW If you're a parent and a music lover, there is a persistent struggle to try to balance the family's musical selections. For some reason the kids don't get the attraction of say, Radiohead or Moby. And the parents don't want to have to listen to standard children's fare, with all the music provided by one cheesy synthesiser, laughable vocal abilities and appalling lyrics that get stuck in your head until you're ready to stick a screwdriver in your eye just to take your mind off them. So, having had a preview of a realistic alternative at a Luther Wright / Sarah Harmer show in Kingston last year, I was happy when my daughter Kayleigh (aged 4 ¾) recently received a copy of Butterfingers' The People We Know. Butterfingers is comprised of two-fifths of Luther Wright and the Wrongs - Luther and Dan Curtis - plus Ryan Bol. Assorted friends from the Kingston music scene are along for the ride, including Sarah Harmer who contributes a few backing vocals. The eleven songs that make up The People We Know rush by in less than 25 minutes, with the (presumably desired) effect that even short attention spans are kept occupied. Kayleigh's favourite song was immediately Burke The Mountie, mainly because it has a simple & oft-repeated chorus (which so far hasn't sent me running for the screwdriver). But Kayleigh also quickly came up with a set of actions to accompany the song, from polishing her boots and feeding her horse, to putting her big hat on. She then gallops around the house on her toy horse singing the rest of the song out loud. Of the other songs, Jelly Belly is probably favoured by 8 year old boys with its frenetic pace and silly lyrics, such as "You run across the lawn and your butt is bare / The dog's still chewing on your underwear." The title track and Singing Together are two gentle songs of friendship, while Bubby Bol veers away from the country sound for the tale of a dog that works in the Paris library. There's enough here to keep grownups happy as well, with a few jokes or references that would be beyond most kids. And so long as you like Luther's brand of music, which maplemusic.com describes as "alt-country punkgrass", then The People We Know is a disc that the whole family can enjoy. Greetings from the left coast where we have beefed up the posse to 9 people and two vehicles. Jason Mercer has joined the tour on banjo and Robin Aube is mixing the sound up like some freaky cook. I did an interview with Shelagh Rogers on the CBC for her tasteful and informative, national radio morning show. It was broadcast on Monday, September 26th and apparently I spoke in full sentences, some of which even made sense! Whew! It was a late night before playing the Green Room in Vancouver and given'er with our peeps. 7 am comes right some early, pardner. We just lined up a Hometown show in Kingston with Chris Brown & Kate Fenner, who have just both released solo records. Also on the bill is Po' Girl from Vancouver and they are getting raved up both sides of the border. Home in Kingston briefly after three weeks of our 9 week N.Y.C. to Ames Iowa (via P.E.I. and San Diego) tour. Had quite a time in New York that culminated with us busting out the jams in Brooklyn during the Blackout. The east coast of Canada was a ripping good time too. We had our friend Laura Freeman from Austin Texas opening up for us and finished that run of shows at the Evolve Festival ouside of Antigonish. Chris Brown and Kate Fenner were part of a three day hang in eastern paradise. Thousands of groovsters camped out and shook their booties to a weekend of jam band, rockin' glory. We added our homecooked, country flavour for about an hour and a half on Saturday. Off to the 100th aniversary of Harley Davidson in Milwaukee this weekend to play three shows over three days. hi there, so it's the big week of release for Guitar Pickin' Martyrs in the U.S. of A. We are gearing up for a fine chunk of touring down there but first let me recount the last few weeks of 'wrong-dom. All is well on the festival front these days. A beacon of hope for humanity is how I see the music festival. People doing their thing to the music and the vibe. In these parts it's a veritable homecoming for Canadian musicians. A much needed chance to hang out and get caught up and inspired by each others music and stories from the road. We also played some very fine festivals in the states, notably the Northeast Kingdom Festival. This gem is set deep in the hills of northern Vermont and run smoothly and groovily by the nicest people. We took in as much as we could there but as it turns out we had to make an early departure after our afternoon set. The pace, it quickens for us now so getting home that day was on our minds. I made the most of being autonomous and in the Kingston area on a Sunday and took my leave up to the Blue Skies festival north of here some 60 miles in Lanark County. This baby is in its 30th year and I floated in there and grooved on with many friends and musicians (who are just like friends but can sing in key). The Road Dog Divas put on a show that changed the way I watch things. Tons o' talent between the three dyno-women there, yeah! The Brothers Cosmoline (featuring Burke Carroll) put on a fine un-plugged show during what was easily the most apocolyptic electrical thunderstorm of the season. Zeus sent word down or sumpthin'. Hi there people of the world. We are sliding through the summer months playing the festivals and weekend shows here and there. We had the swinging-est time at the Dauphin, Manitoba Country Fest at the end of June. And just this weekend we gave èr at the Ottawa Blues Festival, where we played our unique brand of blues music...uh...yeah. Well our songs are so f@#%ing sad it gives people the blues and then the other bands help them through it, or something like that. The you 'heard it here' word is that our new cd,"Guitar Pickin' Martyrs" is coming out in Canada on June 24th through Universal Records and in America on August 5th through Back Porch Records. It's all original 'Wrongs music with a Bill Monroe song and a tune written by Luthers brother Geordie bringing the song title total up to a lucky thirteen. We're working on video of a tune called "Race to the Top", with our ole buddy Sean Turell who guided the ship on the last videos we whipped out a few years back. Whoa boy! This keyboard is too square for a fella like me to be sitting by for too long. There's some wood to be chopped and that guitar's not gonna play itself. Hey there! The fellas have two songs in the new Ron Mann film, "Go Further" that premiered at the South by Southwest film Festival in Austin, Texas a few weeks back. Rons last film "Grass" was a big underground hit and this documentary follows actor and activist Woody Harrelson as he takes to the open road on his "Simple Organic Living Tour". One song is a Luther original named "Tumbler Ridge" and they also did a couple of versions of that ole gem, "Yankee Doodle Dandy".February 20th, 2003
Wowee! here we are 4 & 1/2 weeks into a 6 week tour and it's time to up-date the world on our band line-up. Cam Giroux has indeed left the ranks of the Wrongs to pursue a more sedentary life. We are sad to say goodbye to our little buddy after 5 big years of Wrong-ness but the sadness is tempered by the joy of welcoming our old pal Mauro Sepe into the fold. We played in the Mugworts together back in the 90's when the Kingston music scene was enjoying a bit of an explosion. Mauro was the fella that pointed out to me that I was writing country songs and we were hacking them to bits with electric guitars in the Mugworts (oh the glory!). Now he's back to pay the price. Also, we have to report, Ms. Megan Palmer from Columbus Ohio is out on tour with us playing fiddle and she seems to be warming up to the idea of permanent Wrong-ship. She has done two tours with us to date and her playing often elicits massive applause. Needless to say I've asked her to tone that down a bit as it is LUTHER WRIGHT & the Wrongs after all. Just kidding of course. (It was really just a cool band name and I don't anticipate a solo tour anytime soon.) We'll be playing sporadically through March whilst we finish up our new record and then we hit the road again for the month of April. We are really trying to work out the glitches so that we can up-load photos from the road and I am pondering whipping out another tour journal of recent events. Butterfingers (our kids cd) is getting around and we've taken to playing a song or two from it every night to show just how entertaining childrens music can be for adults. Not being adults ourselves, we've had to study the reactions from town to town before risking saying such a bold statement. Uh...am I rambling here? Yup! time to go to Iowa City. It's getting very close to the end of our perimeter of America tour. We see the holidays screaming down the pipe at us and shiver with anticipation (and yer basic sleep deprivation and malnourishment). From Boston to Florida to San Diego to Washington state to Buffalo to NYC to Michigan to Ohio and then home for the big Weeping Tile Xmas show in Kingston. If all goes as planned Sean, Cam and I should arrive in time for soundcheck on the 22nd of December, which is what the poster says is the date of the show (how fitting is that!). I’m putting the finishing touches on another fascinating tour journal and we’re getting set to mix our new record in January with hopes of a late spring release. We're home now from a big ole tour of America. Here's what the nice people from the San Francisco Chronicle had to say about us: When the sound crew played Pink Floyd's "The Wall" at last year's "Pledge of Allegiance" tour stop in San Jose, biding time until the fine fellows from Slipknot deemed themselves ready to take the stage, at least one of the older members of the audience was surprised at how great the record still sounded. Having played "The Wall" -- the all-time teenage dirtbag concept album -- countless times as an addlepated suburban high schooler a couple decades ago, I'd been thinking I'd never need to hear it again. Wrong! Or better yet: Luther Wright & the Wrongs. This inspired Canadian twang band has filled a niche few of us knew needed filling: With fiddle, pedal steel guitar and a meandering banjo, they have recast "The Wall" as a hillbilly song cycle. A horse opera, if you will. Sound ridiculous? They're dead serious, and darn good at it. It's an altogether different kind of "space cadet glow." .August 30th, 2002

Well we're on the road tomorrow to tour America for a month. Our recording of the next original cd is done as of a few days ago and we'll mix it in September and get it ready for a probable 2003 release. Well we played a show with Stompin' Tom Conners the other night at the Tulip Festival in Ottawa. He's like Madonna or something. When Tom was outside of his trailor backstage no one else was allowed in the area. Big guys in blue security uniforms swarmed any violaters and one would get hustled back to wherever one came from (unless it was the port-a-potty, they wouldn't make you stay in there). How weird is that, eh? His show was spectacular, although the Ottawa crowd didn't take too kindly to his cheer for the Leafs. He also called the Headstones the Headhunters but Hugh returned the compliment when he remarked that it was great to play with Stompin' Tim. The line-up was LW & the W's, the Skydiggers, Stompin' T., and the Headstones. Quite a night in Ottawa which, by the way for you out-of-towners, is actually the capital of Canada. Toronto was never actually the capital but little ole Kingston was for a couple of years a piece back, (like a hundred and some years). uhh...see yaMay 13th, 2002
Hi there! I never write on this thing but today I want to speak up from behind the drum kit and give y'all a little up-date. We played with our friends the Waifs the other day. Blessed and multi-talented, they are back in the hemisphere for the summer. Check them out. Moving right along with more music for more people, we start recording a new cd of original material next week. Our old buddy Robin Aube, who has had a hand in most of the 'Wrongs projects to date, is migrating from Hamilton to press play/record. And our long time friend, producer and soundman Grant Ethier will be on hand to wrangle the Wrongs into pulling out all the stops. We've been holding onto some songs now for long enough so it’s time to toss them from the nest. Recording is the yang to tourings' ying as too much of either without a break can wear us down. Some songs won't let themselves be finished until the recording process distills them down to perfection. We've been having a hoot playing together this last year so it will be sweet (dude) to jam for weeks in perfect isolation. In other news: -the first of a series of cds for children by a 'Wrongs splinter group called, "Butterfingers", is all mastered and almost ready to get manufactured. It's titled, "The People We Know", and has eleven songs written and performed by Dan Curtis, Luther Wright and Ryan Bol. You will be able to get this through our website soon I assure you. The New York Times called to chat last week and they were putting a piece together about the band and the Rebuild the Wall cd that should be in next Sundays (May 19th) edition. A video for "Comfortably Numb" is in the works with Sean Turrell, the man who directed the first 'Wrongs vid for Brick pt. 2. Look for it in June/July. We head in out in earnest to America in June for a month of shows followed by an August run to California and points west. There's bound to be more news but right now I need more sleep. Well here we go! Today is the day that Rebuild the Wall hits the stores of America and Luther just got off of the phone from doing a pile o' interviews with radio morning hosts all over the map. Minds are being bent on classic rock radio stations in brand new ways by this bastard child of a road trip brainstorm. Those D.J.'s are so jacked up on jitter juice and nicorette that the questions came hard and fast down the pipe. Good thing LW has a penchant for talking too fast himself, it's akin to Jedi Russian roulette on the airwaves if you slip up. We are heading for NYC to play our release party and greet our southern brethren before we dive into recording a new cd of hurtin' originals. Nobody gave me a picture at the time, so I got a little creative. (Couldn't do much else really, as a Google image search for "Burke Carroll" just turns up a logo for orthotic footwear.) Well, rest assured that this piquant situation has been resolved. In an earlier effort to resolve this whole Burke dillemma, I got my hands on a sketch of Burke by K-town artist Tully, and was about to replace the sailor with that, when Luther dropped off a pic of Burke... That sketch is now displayed in the Graphics section. Thanks, Tully. In other thrilling LWW's news, the boys have signed some sort of an agreement or another with Back Porch Records, a U.S. label that bills itself as "Americana, cross-country and cross-over." And a happy new years to one and all. We're on the other side of a big wing-ding of a holiday season that saw us playing Hamilton, Toronto and Ottawa the 28th/29th and 31st. Good to play through the last days of a crazy year. We are looking forward to the up-coming release of Rebuild the Wall in America on Back Porch Records in April. They are a label out of Milwaukee that we met last summer while there with Blue Rodeo. We are also planning to do another video in the next little bit if all goes well with the funding procedure. Too un-musical to discuss here, believe me. On the home listening front it's been a banner year for Canadian releases. In and around the cd player out here are new cd's from: Bodega, Hayden, the Silverhearts, Royal City, Lederhosen Lucil, Justin Bird, Godspeed you Black Emperor, Flashing Lights, Sloan, Mayor McCa, and many more. We hope to add our name to this list by spring if a goes well. First up will be a little ep of the songs that we pluck in the back rooms and around kitchen tables. Some original and some favourites that we've adapted. Not to worry though, our foray into cover music went so well with rebuild the wall that we'll be sticking to tried and true C&W/bluegrass when not doing our own songs. Our next big release will be a full length all-original cd of songs that spell out the trials and tribulations of romance. While I'm excercising my temporary dominion over the front page of this site, I thought I might share an amusing LWW-website-related phenomenon with you. As some of you may know, whenever anyone accesses a webpage, their request for that page is logged by the server, along with some other info that can be of use to webchumps such as myself. One of these pieces of information is the referring page. This can be useful in checking how effectively the site is promoted with search engines, seeing who's linking to the site, etc...Anyhoo, as an expression of my own personal arrogance, I titled the pictures page "hot, sexy pics" (I'm sure someone out there finds these buffoons attractive, so that's not entirely off base) and everytime I go into the logs I notice several poor saps that stopped by after a search for "hot sexy pics" or the like on various search engines. (This site actually places pretty high in a Google search for "hot, sexy pics"... We're right up on the first page of results. Imagine the disappointment of the wayward horny surfer...)

Well we've just finished up two big and successful cd release shows for Rebuild the Wall. The entire 26 song cd came out on Universal Canada on September 25th and is in stores all over hells half acre. (Online you foreign brethren can find all of our cd's at maplemusic.com) The first ripper of a show was at the Horseshoe in Toronto and the other was in our hometown of Kingston at the Ironhorse Saloon. Yee-haw! Both joints were rockin' to the double-duty, 6 piece 'Wrongs-o-rama. Banjo dynamo Chris Quinn joined us for both nights and garnered much applause for his outstanding pickin'. We covet the day when Chris can join the full-time ranks of the Wrongs. We shot a music video for Brick in the Wall pt. 2 last week... it should be airing on CMT by the end of the month if all goes well. Fiddle player Julie Penner, who played on Rebuild the Wall joined us in the video where we are depicted as a bunch of Harley driving hombres cruising the country roads looking to subvert the dominant paradigm by way of musical performance. Rest assured, it'll look better than that less than spectacular vernacular portends. We'll soon be hitting the highway on our Charlottetown P.E.I. to Tofino B.C. tour. The talented Jim Bryson is joining the tour to open up the show. On our way home we'll be dipping into the states to play a few shows in Minnisota and points east, hopefully including a couple of dates with our home girl Sarah Harmer in Chicago and Detroit rock city. here have been a few dissenters in the crowd over the last year but this young fella takes the cake. He placed this gingerly on the stage at a show a while back and it always brings a tear to my eye when I read it.
